Hello folks, new player here. Just hit 100 on my first character and started SR for the gear grind for my gear set, however, I’m a bit confused.
In my reading pre starting, it was recommended to start in normal, burn up and get the recipes, then jump up to elite/ultimate and run X level SR to farm.
So I got up to lvl 33 SR in normal and needed a break. I got like 7 different waystone types up through Eternal 32nd-36th shard. When I got back and wanted to continue up in normal, I made a Celestial and jumped in while in normal mode, and all of a sudden the mods are 10x harder than they were previously. During my initial run to 30 and including I think up to like 33, I didn’t even come close to dying.
However, after jumping back in at 26 with the Celestial Stone, I’m getting my ass handed to me (still in normal).
Is there some difference from running from a fresh clear, to using a waystone? It feels like I went from normal to ultimate. I’m really confused.
Since I’m new, I haven’t previously done anything, lol. My break was only like 2 hours. My grind started today. Guess I should’ve clarified that.
So why is 26 with the Celestial waystone now 10x harder than 33 was without a waystone?
This is all transpired over a few hours. Thats why I’m confused. Just not sure why normal with a waystone is so much harder at a lower level, than when I first entered and grinded straight up.
Too clarify…All today…In normal, grinded from SR1 to SR 33/34 with zero issues, and running like a breeze then had to take a break. Come back 3 hours later, make a Celestial Waystone, it puts me in SR26 and I’m not getting my butt handed to me.
it sounds weird ngl
i can’t imagine on a technical level there should actually be a difference reaching X shard with or without waystone, but i haven’t uprun SR in a while so can’t say after the Shard squish (tho i’d assume it’s unintended if it actually happens)
Only thing i could imagine is
either you accidentally actually loaded in to Elite or Ultimate, and was actually playing a harder SR same shard than you ran on Normal.
Or, the build has a couple of specific holes/gaps, that you lucked out on to not be an issue on the uprun, and when using the waystone then got served just the anti build gap pokes that worked against this char this run
Yea I’m not sure. I’m new to the game, but certainly not new to arpg or gaming etc (I started gaming in DOS, lol), so I’m sure something was off.
You could be right I swapped difficulty on accident, but I remember looking in the upper left and didn’t see elite or ultimate up there, so I dunno what gives.
I’ll get back to grinding again and see what happens.
if you post a GT of your char it could be quick to spot if there was potentially any defence gaps that could have caused it
(can upload save direct with top left arrow button Grim Dawn Build Calculator then hit the share button below and post link it generates)
besides that will have to wait and see if more weird difficulty spike reports roll in
