I didn’t try starpont gemini warlords but between rebel galaxy and spaz 2 i would pick the first. I tried spaz 2 at start of EA and refunded, combat was messy and map exploration was somewhat boring. Maybe the game improved a lot since then so don’t take my words as gold. Btw in few days Trese brothers’ new game “space traders : Frontiers” will be out. It’s a turn based space sandbox, looks interesting if you like the genre.
I’ll second the Rebel Galaxy rec. I haven’t played Warlords but I did play SPG2, and from the research I did on the Warlords forum, it has all the same problems as SPG2 (annoying QoL niggles, boring combat, unbalanced stuff, etc). SPAZ2 is excellent, but limited. After I finished the main campaign I didn’t really feel compelled to move on to the sandbox.
Lightspeed Frontier is similar to SPAZ2, and might have more potential in the long run. It’s very unpolished at the moment, though.
This is true and the main reason why even though I bought warlords months ago in early access (cheaper back then) I haven’t played it for more than an hour or two. SG games always need a few months of tweaks.
My vote is for Rebel Galaxy I got it when it first was released, the game was a pile of fun and the soundtrack was just great, it went well with the game. Well worth it for full price. Haven’t played SPAZ2 or SpGW yet as they seem to need a bit of tweaking to smooth out the experience.
