So my final time for act one (main quests only) was 1:24 (hours/minutes)
I could not find ANY scrap for the life of me. Had to go clear to Foggy Bank to find all 5.
Already died once, at the Wightmire portal.
Doing Necro/Shaman (pet build?)
Forgot how fun this game was.
Welcome to speedrunning. There is already a community that speedruns Grim Dawn on https://www.speedrun.com/gd
For speedrunning a movement skill is essential so nightblade is almost always eventually picked. The exception to the rule is the ultimate speedrun which is hard enough to warrant picking other class and just using riftstone component to travel.
I recommend you watch a submission for tips on how to improve your time. Maybe you’ll be interested in making a submission of your own at some point?
Ashes of Malmouth cannot be installed… WTF?
I’m not sure I understand your comment. AoM speedrun submissions are plentiful on the website.
To expand on what IDWK said, the categories for the game are split into AoM and no AoM, since there are differences in how the run is routed depending on whether you have AoM installed or not. Runs that use AoM would go into the AoM categories. There will be additional categories for Forgotten Gods once that is released as well.
But how does AoM effect a run to Log?
It’s mostly version differences, since the most optimal version for a non-AoM run (in terms of skill power and game mechanics and then for obvious reasons in the major glitches category) is from before AoM came out.
As far as why do we require it to not be installed? I honestly don’t remember, you’d have to ask another mod on the SRC page. :o
The restriction is there so that there’s an even playing field for all runners.
Firstly, I don’t want people who don’t have the expansion to feel pressured into buying it if at any point an AoM specific strat is found that gives an edge to people who do own AoM.
To answer your question, AoM means new items (low level ones as well), new classes, new devotions… Who knows what else.
Secondly, as a mod, I want there to be as much clarity as possible when it comes to the rules as I don’t want to spend more time than needed answering questions about what goes and what doesn’t. I just don’t really want to be concerned with two potentially very different versions of the game being eligible for one category.
About sums it up from my point of view.
And the final point is that AoM users can run a non-AoM speedrun easily with no harm to saves or installation. Uncheck dlc box in steam settings or I think there is a command line that will make gd launch without AoM (which has benefit of not having to rediscover AoM installation after reverting back I think). Been a while since I was trying non AoM speedruns.
Is there a GD speedrunning discord as well?
There are Discord servers, yes. Most of the discussion nowadays take place on Boarum’s server. You can find the links here: https://www.speedrun.com/gd/thread/h7bsm
Thanks, I’ll join later today
