Starting and need a tip...

Hi everyone,

So, I played Grim Dawn in the beggining of the last year, after reaching 85 with my Druid and completed about 95% os the quests, I quit.

The game seems to be evolving really nice and fast so I decided to join this community again.

My doubt about having a good experience is: should I restart with my own build or should I look for some nice on here on forums and copy it? Which one for a better game experience?

Btw…my first Druid was a copy from a series of videos from WolfOverClocked (The Arcane Storm), which was pretty nice.

Thanks for the advice!

Up to you really, i’m personally in favour of experimenting and trying builds or random ideas out on my own (with a bit of guidance from the community here or there) and learning from my mistakes/where I could improve builds.

On the other hand, you could always try a few of the top ones and see what makes them so strong and why before you go off on your own :p.

Of course you must go your own way.

If you were completely new, then it would make sense to take someone else’s build, but since you already have a character that has reached level 85 - it does not make any sense.

This will not be your build, but someone else’s, someone else’s experience, and there will be no sense from this.

The only thing you can do with other people’s builds is to watch how they were made, noting good moves and laughing at mistakes.

I would recommend experimenting with a few builds - following a forum build right off the bat is like watching a movie with every plot point spoiled beforehand. For me, it takes away a lot of the fun of playing the game naturally and trying to find what fits for you.

The Spirit Guide in Devil’s Crossing has pretty forgiving prices - I’ve more or less rebuilt/redevoted my character’s several times from the ground up before I move on to a new character.

To me, making my own build ist about 80% of the game, so the only times that I would look at build guides would be when I was totally stuck.

Generally I would recommend a similar approach for novel or casual players too as usually making a working build isn’t hard at all.
There are some build-enabling concepts and synergies in the game that are not apparent, but if you would go for a build (-guide) that utilizes those, despite, or because, you’re not familiar with them, chances are that you’ll get stuck with a character that needs items that you do not have or uses mechanics that you find hard to employ or don’t even like.

So, basic advice: Just go with what you enjoy playing and rather ask for help later if you get stuck. There’s basically no build that can’t be made to work.

Thanks very much guys! I really appreciate.
