State of the Game Address II

Thank you for the update

Yes, there is huge lake / inland sea to the north of the first area and to the south it is bounded by mountains. Later gameplay areas wrap around either side of the body of water, with a few towns on its coast.

oh my… fap fap

You know…it’s funny…reading your update made me think about when i first found out about GD. I joined back in may 2010 and saw that there would be an alpha and i could get in.

I of course didn’t know much about and figured the Alpha would probably be realeased sometime during the summer of 2010 and was excited to get a d3 fix in my system…needless to say, that didn’t quite happen.

This community has been the first community I have ever really been involved in and feel like Grim Dawn has not only brought a bunch of the right game developers together, but attracted the right people to the forums.

I think you guys as a development team are doing an excellent job in customer relations and are really showing the entrepeneurship that a business needs in order to succeed. Hell if I were still in college, I would want to get an interview and use you guy’s as an example in start up business.

However, I wish for a very successful road ahead of you guys, and I plan to stick by you to the end. Congrats guys, you deserve it!

Well … This was a nice update to return to on the forums. Its been a good couple months and I decided to see if the alpha was getting ready soon. I am sad that I gotta wait even longer now but it is totally worth it after seeing the all the changes

Are there any plans for achievements? I for one like having achievements to work towards.

Can’t wait to get my hands on the alpha and go bug hunting, the more I find the better launch day will be.

It is definitely possible to make all of them worthwhile. The way to go about this is to start with base-level stats that make the item desirable and then to include at least one “highly desirable” bonus such as an added damage or an unusually large quantity of a resistance; then create diversity through secondary stats and item art. A common problem with many item bonuses is that some may seem too similar but, in that case, the unique art helps keep them exciting.

With that covered, we also try to create some extreme items that encourage players to experiment and discover new playstyles. Sometimes the best uniques are the ones that encourage fun and unexpected builds.

I’ve never been so sure I did the right thing backing your game than after reading this.

This is why I love the indie scene

You guys rock

This update to GD is awesome and look forward to playing it!! I hope your guys take your time and finish the game the right way with the proper polish. I have seen so many games being rushed that don’t get to their potential and would be sad if that happened to GD.

It does look like you guys are on your way to a fantastic title. I want you to know that Titan Quest was one of the very few games that I replayed to death on all the difficulty levels, finding all the equipment sets, etc. So, if GD comes close to TQ or better, that would make my day!

Keep the updates coming!

hello i dont really post that offten as i just tend to read and make a few comments here and there.

medierra < thanks first of all for the newest update i think its going to be totally worth while.

Keeping the alpha open to people who want to pay for it i think its another good advantage that you have on your side. Are you going to do any more interviews or someone else for that matter to once again push people into seeing if they have the $ for such a game as this.

Its the end of the year and likely like most other games out there not going to get much in terms of new people before the new year but after that i think it would be a fantasic thing if more interviews where done after the state of the alpha is relesed and people have made there comments relating to what they belive should be done via the alpha and then its a matter of then adding to the game weather it be an extra mob or map.

I like the new layout of the map btw.

With extra items as such as uniqes and such i know games try to use uniqes only once over in game and dont try to reuse them as this could be something the alpha - beta could do while testing the balance of the game what you think about that ?.

It would certainly cut down on the amount of stuff you need to add to the game for the base its just then a matter of getting the stats done for that weapon type and the player can then pick up a higher version of that same item.

Im sure the physics of the game will be fixed or smoothed out by alpha so all is good on that front. Are you going to allow players to complete the alpha and be “OP” in terms of re-play untill new content or is it more based on complete the game and start again with same or different char ?

I know you have side quests which is fantasic but if you finnish the game will it end there ?.

As for monsters i think the players will be glad to see what comes of the game play and thanks again for the mega update :).

Keep up good work guys and the dream is only around the corner :).

This looks amazing (a bit linear though? Maybe it’s just me) and it’s nice to hear that the KS made this project so much more amazing.

I am very sure that you will amaze us with your work even more once we can finally play it.

rrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrr!

Good deal.

Awesome and thank you for an exciting update. Can’t say it will be easier to wait now knowing about all these wonderful things… but we don’t look for easy ways here are we?

What an update!! The last time I saw the maps being developed, only 3-4 areas were like green. Now there is a lot more areas that are green now. I expected a lot of weapons, gears, monsters, uniques, and the loot system mentioned after the amount of the updates you guys have given these past few months. Thanks for the giant update, Crate.

I am not sure you guys will release Alpha this year since there is not much left in it, so it is better not to release it in between now until the Winter holidays (Christmas and New Year), so I will assume Alpha will be out next year. Still, it would be better if you can prove me wrong.

ok, a little off topic, but since this thread has me psyched,
is it possible to upgrade from Patron to Loyalist ?

Awesome.
Super looking forward to this game.

Also BIG +1 for using “New Hotness”.

@jamesL :wink:

Brutal update!

Keep up da great work!

Please work relaxed, and do NOT rush! You and we have time too.

Producin’ content and polish aspects need time!

cheers!

I am very excited! (Just like everyone else.)
I can’t wait to try out the alpha version. =)

Me and a friend actually installed Titan Quest again a few days ago and started new characters. I’ve played TQ so many times; it’s such a great game. I’m hoping that Grim Dawn will be just as good (or even better)!

Now go finish making the game! :stuck_out_tongue:
