I would like to be sure about it, i searched for a clear answer on the forum and steam but it is still ambiguous for me.
When you buy a “Digital” copy of GD here on the forum, you’ve got two keys : the Early Access one with steam and the free DRM one.
But if i decide to give my Early Access key for steam to a friend when the DRM version comes out and i install it, will i be able to play with my friend (which will use the EA steam key and me the DRM) ? Or it only mean that i can choose the support i can play with, but with one copy at a time?
TBH - one would hope another copy of the game would be purchased since you bought the Digital Version which is really one copy of the game for your use.
If people want good games, they really need to support the devs making the game. :undecided:
In answer to your question, it’s a bit unclear as the Humble page seems to indicate both, but where you click on the key it says the DRM-free is available until the Steam key is claimed.
So I have both a Steam key and a DRM free key, I’m assuming if I want to use the DRM key I have to uninstall Grim Dawn from steam then install the DRM free version and use that key. Or does it mean that if I’ve used the Steam key for early access I can no longer use the DRM free key because I used the Steam key, it’s all; very confusing at the moment.
Here’s how I believe the license purchase options now work. Maybe this will clarify something that is confusing in the mix.
If bought an early access license on steam the user can play on steam before release and license remains valid for steam after release for that steam account.
If license bought via crate/humble website license to play early access granted to user but at release the user must choose between continued use of steam license OR a DRM free license - one or the other.
How this transition will work I don’t know.
If the user already bought early access license on steam and wants to license a DRM free instance of the game (and hasn’t already done so via crate site, kickstarter, humble) that is possible also.
So…
Aside from some of the kickstarter offers, in essence what is available on crate BUY page AFAIK is 1 license now (since early access status is no more) - the user can choose to enable it now on steam or wait for the DRM free release of the game.
[li]Hell, not sure now. IIRC it was like the above with early access still in play… Seems now the crate page does indicate 2 licenses despite loosing the early access verbage.
The steam gotchas though are the 1 game instance per account so the user needs to decide how to deal with that – more or less solved by making or attaching to a second steam account. Some games on steam ‘merge’ okay but that isn’t something I’d want to assume will happen.
