Right now im in the work of building up the walls of my town and i have some questions about it.
Do raiders attack any part of the construction, just like they do to the watch towers? For example: will they all try to force to open the gates, or will they just break through anywhere on the wall to invade?
Im trying to plan a strategy of placing watch towers and barracks at strategic locations to do the job of knocking them, but this doubt can make it all go to waste if they do.
I feel like they are intelegent. If I put watchtowers at a certain point (like the gates) they only attack there 2 or 3 times, before I find them attacking a random section of wall away from the towers. It is both frustrating lol, and perfect as that would be very true to life.
Raiders can attack walls rather than gates.
I tend to have watchtowers a bit everywhere, but not close to the gates (so it takes them that much time to come and take them out).
Also, each watchtower is encased in its own wall with a gate, so they have to go through that too .
I planned myself a citadel with all major storage and industry well protected by towers and the barracks (the usual buildings that raiders tend to favor when looting). Created major roads leading to it that raiders tend to use ⦠until they die.
I leave a bit of space between those main roads and the 4 parts of the city as a buffer.
I didnt see this before, but i thought exactly the same about walling each watch tower thingā¦lol
Good question. Now i feel more confident to plan an optimal strategy to fight them.
I play vanguard and until now they were only able to take stuff like beer and food (less protection) ⦠and some gold while my foundry was outside of the ācitadelā.
And that was before I did a new map and optimized my layout. Now they are having a harder time.
Now I am fully surrounded by walls, the raiders tend to line up and just batter away at them⦠I fear that the term āFortifiedā is a misnomer as frankly one raider guy with a sword seems to be able to take down a gate as if itās made of balsa wood⦠the stone wall segments last a tad longer than the gates though. Iāve taken to building double layer walls but this is a huge job when you have a large settlement area, especially on uneven terrain ( Iām in Alpine Valley on high difficulty)
One thing I notice now is that when the usual allotted time for a raid runs out, the attackers no longer all run away as they used to in pre-wall days, and because fewer of them reach the town centre and get slotted by my archers or troops any more they persist long after the alarm stops and just stand there whittling away at the walls till they eventually knock them down. This seems to be a small ābugā in that they donāt just go away any more⦠so you end up spending literally ages repairing all these broken wall sections⦠Iām adapting by trying to ālet them inā at well used attack points then create a fortified inner ākill zoneā where towers and barracks can get at them
