Stormcaller's Pact Lightning VS Primal Bond Physical

Hello everyone. This is my first thread here. And I’ve come for help!

So this are my stats:

  • I am scrolling through rings/hands/amulet for resistance needs

17-24 % lifesteal. Wendigo on Savagery, with ghoul’s blood and menhir’s will. AOE are zoltan’s and feral strike.

Today I’ve completed the eye of the storm relic, and decided to jump to lightning build. I’m currently at act 2 on ultimate difficulty. So my logic was, If I switch to an elemental dmg weapon from my Stonefist Rebuke, with stormcaller’s pact, and new relic aura, my dps should increase, which would give me more lifesteal, and be at par with survivability of previous build with Primal bond…

Well, that isn’t the case… Before, I could clear anything really, except Valadar x). Now I can’t even survive a larger group of mobs. Aetherials, beasts, chtonic, you name it. I just can’t survive 5 seconds in a fight.
My HP drops at least 300% faster than before.

Any idea of the cause? what am I doing wrong…
If you need any more info/screenshots if you think you can help, tell me

Stormcaller’s pact is really strong when your gear is optimized, i.e. when you have enough OA to constantly crit and don’t need the damage absorption that Primal Bond grants. Before that, not so much.
The big drop in Survivability is probably because your physical gear was much stronger than the lightning gear. Stonefist rebuke grants +2 Soldier, which probably boosted all your Soldier passives that were part of your survivability.
I’d recommend just sticking with Physical until you get better gear for Lightning.
Also, do you use the no-cooldown verson of Primal Strike as basic attack? Zolhan’s and Feral Hunger don’t proc off it, they only proc from basic attacks and basic attack replacers like savagery and Cadence on the first and second hit.
You should post your build, that way we can give more detailed help: https://grimcalc.com/

Thanks for the fast reply!
Oh my god, I misstyped in the topic I’ve posted. Huge mistake.
I am not using Primal strike. I am using Savagery as my main. :furious: edited that now…

The only gear I swapped was actually these 3 pieces:
Stonefist rebuke, weapon–> Empowered prismatic eviscerator
Bladesworn talisman, relic --> Eye of the storm
Titan pauldrons, shoulders --> Dawnbreaker’s shoulderguard

these are my soldier/shaman skills:

You should spend skill points on the Soldier Mastery to get Field of Command and Scars of Battle. The extra Offensive Ability and Defensive Ability plus the armor from Field of Command and the Armor Absorption from Scars of Battle help a lot.

Also, maxing Brute Force is a bad idea. The extra damage is barely noticable, so leave it at one point. Also leave Feral Hunger at its max proc chance, which is at level 7 i believe and the same thing for Zolhan’s Technique

Okay, I’ll tweak that. But still it’s a mystery to me why I am so squishy now… Barely survived Cronley. Couldn’t kill Warden. Previously I could just look away and auto savagery them without being even near to death.
I mean, the only thing that has changed is probably the 15% absorption from Primal Bond. It should be barely noticeable.

The game does take a leap in difficulty in Act 2. That probably added up with the loss of the damage absorption, plus the fact that you lost the massive defensive passive bonus that Titan Pauldrons provide. Seems pretty plausible to me that you get chunked much harder now.

Primal Bond grants 15% Damage Absorption which will make you more tanky. When you switched to Stormcaller’s Pact you lost this 15% Damage Absorption.

Yes but I take at least 100% more damage and not 15% as the bond suggests. that’s why I said the numbers don’t add up

-25% Aether Resist against two bosses which do heavy Aether Damage might be a place to start.

didn’t even have trouble with them on previous build… this sucks

Hm…see what happens if you go back to Stonefisk Rebuke + Titan Pauldrons. Losing those two lost you 20% Physical Resist, which would have a noticeable impact, especially against enemies like Boars and Shamblers.

You should be able to mitigate that with more armor, but the best way to get that is Field Command + Scars of Battle, deeper in the Soldier mastery. The reskilling ideas from Norzan are a good idea, with the notes that Feral Hunger’s proc rate stops at level 8 rather than 7, and it’s probably worth it for you to keep Zolhan’s Technique as high as possible to scale the % Weapon Damage (30% more at 12/12 than at 9/12, where it’s proc rate stops increasing).
