Hunters sent far returned via mountain terrrain , got stuck on a slope , died , villagers went to gather the bodies , got stuck and thats the death loop bug .
This bug is well known already and should be fixed in the next patches.
I have a work around which might help you: Try to do some terraforming with the leveling tool. In my case it resulted in path finding kicking in and the villagers could be saved. It even stopped this bug from happening again since. Good luck.
This one works most of the time, except if they are stuck near the water. However when flattening, be sure to flatten an area out of stuck zone, so then after the flattening they can go out.
