[Suggestion] Ideas for Pyran Buff

Problems I’ve noticed with the set:

  1. Bad for Mortar Trap - Going non-set would allow you to pick up 50% more Mortar Traps (from 4 -> 6), and the set bonuses do not come close to compensating for this. The conversion is meaningless with Mark of Calamitous Desires and the flat does not get you anywhere close to 50% more damage.
  2. Easily the worst Devastation set - Spellscourge gets 100% uptime, ADCTH, and shotgun bonuses to Devastation and Diviner’s gives you two Devastations as well as even better shotgun bonuses. Pyran’s gives you… flat RR.
  3. Bad for Guardian of Empyrion - While I imagine it probably goes without saying, Guardian of Empyrion does much better without this set, although tbf, I imagine this wasn’t intended in the first place to be a Guardian of Empyrion set. Basically relegates this set to being exclusively for Sorcerer, though.
  4. Physical resistance and DA starvation - Not a single part of this set has any to speak of. Just a little sprinkle here and there would go a long way to help make this set not get hammered when Mirror of Ereoctes or Blast Shield are down.
  5. Difficult to get full conversion for Mortar Trap - There are now 3 different sources of “100% Physical Damage Converted to Fire Damage to Mortar Trap,” but yet there are 0 for Lightning Damage conversion. Non-set has better flexibility here for getting global conversion, but the only way Pyran can get that Lightning Damage conversion is by either dropping Warpfire for Alladrah’s Spellblade (which would be horrible) or using both ring slots for Band of the Eternal Pyre (which means no Combustion Band for RR or Gollus’ Ring for the only form of sustain this build can get on top of also really hampering the build’s resistances).
  6. Pyran’s Pyre is a useless skill - Stormfire just makes for a better filler skill and devotion proccer. Also, even while scaling CDR over cast speed on my build, Stormfire still does better DPS than Pyran’s Pyre, so why is this part of the full set bonus when it’s made obsolete by a component skill?

Potential solutions:

  1. Put “+1 Summon Limit to Mortar Trap” on the full set bonus
  2. Put “-1 Meter Target Area to Devastation” on the full set bonus
  3. If you want the set to be viable outside of Sorcerer, put “+1 Summon Limit to Guardian of Empyrion” on the full set bonus.
  4. Put some Physical Resistance and DA on the 3-piece bonus and/or the items themselves.
  5. Change “100% Physical Damage Converted to Fire Damage to Mortar Trap” on Mark of Calamitous Desires to “100% Lightning Damage Converted to Fire Damage on Mortar Trap.” If you don’t want non-set to have the Lightning Damage conversion, you can also have the chest piece give Lightning Damage Converted to Fire Damage instead of Cold Damage or just put the mod as another set bonus.
  6. Change Pyran’s Pyre to a Devastation-like skill (ie Apocalypse, Meteor Shower, etc). It would firstly be more thematic as the set seems to be all about raining balls of fire from the sky, but also then it would actually be useful too.

I feel these proposed buffs would bring Pyran more in line with other versions of Devastation, Mortar Trap, and Guardian of Empyrion builds but still weaker to those specific skills to balance the fact that Pyran can viably be built around two main skills at once. It’s personally one of my favorite sets because I really enjoy the kiting regen caster playstyle while also seeing a ton of fire projectiles smash my enemies from above, and I was a little saddened to see its gradual fall from grace. If any of you have any further thoughts on Pyran, please feel free to let me know in the replies.

How it’s even expected to use set’s granted skill? If it was proc or spamming skill, it will be much better.

Considering set boosts fire spells on fire based classes it’s hard to buff itemization without creating OP build but I like the proposed changes.

Helmet has Physical Resistance.

Set is good, only the granted skill raises questions about its usefulness. To make it a proc or spamming ability with some rework would help indeed.

True about the helmet. I was hyperbolizing a bit there, but the point still stands. Almost every single Pyran build you’ll see is running around with sub 20% physical resistance even with setups that run double Seal of Might. Still, I wouldn’t mind if it was squishy so long as the set bonuses made the skills do better damage.

Granted skill is kinda perplexing, yeah. It’s not spammable, and its damage isn’t high enough to use it instead of Stormfire. Most of the times I can’t be bothered casting it, I do it mostly for proccing purpouses.

For me it’s either make it spammable (and adjust the damage if needed), or make it hit harder and in a greater radius (and increase its cooldown).

I vote for turning the Pyre skill into a proc because Pyran Sorcs can easily have too many buttons to press.

I like the idea of buffing Pyran set in general, but buffing the GoE part with +1 summon will make it similar with the Blightlord. You can see below that the Blightlord have weaker but many while the Pyran have less but stronger GoE.

Blightlord GoE: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/eZPPlAGZ

Still another problem about Pyran I face is how it sustains. I feel I need to have a reliable conversion from vit to fire on Wendigo and Scale to survive.

Pyran granted skill should get bigger cooldown and function like Siphon Souls but on target.

Or make it a spam with wpn dmg like normal people.

Or a proc but that’s boring.

Anyway, the way it is, it is being used by nobody ever.

Yeah I think the Blightlord comparison is fair, though tbh Blightlord could use a buff as well. Both sets don’t really make for great GoE builds atm. I think though, you are right that then the buff shouldn’t be just 1 summon limit to GoE but maybe just improved flat.

As for sustain, I actually think Pyran does a decent job of this. The set gives tons of %health regen as well as a good chunk of flat health regen. You do need to build around health regen, then, but I don’t think it’s too much to ask for and it’s a good part of the set’s identity.
