[Suggestion] Resolve ambiguous wording for WPS

An ability like Amarasta’s Quick Cut is fairly unambiguous, as per the description:

It’s not 100% clear that “thrice” refers to the main hand twice, and the off-hand once, though: it could equally be interpreted as each three times (as it will show the weapon damage on the actual breakdown as the same).

For other abilities, it is significantly less clear. Consider Marauder’s Ammo Belt:

What exactly is a “salvo”? I tried to test it, but I wasn’t sure when the skill was activating compared to when I was doing a “standard” dual-gun fire (i.e. one immediately after the other in a single left click). This led me to conclude (perhaps incorrectly) that this ability only fires each weapon once. Contrast that with Marauder’s Talisman:

From my testing, this “volley” is two shots from each gun, so twice the damage listed.

Three suggested approaches to make this clearer:

  1. Reword descriptions to make the exact count unambiguous (possibly also highlighting in the “breakdown” orange colour like with Deadly Aim)
  2. Specify the numbers of attacks: something like 2 * 70% weapon damage, etc.
  3. Specify the total weapon damage: for Amarasta’s Quick Cut, that’d be 140% main hand, 70% off-hand, for instance.

While we’re on the topic: why is Deadly Aim worded as it is? Would it be possible to specify on the tooltip the activation in the same way as devotions and items, e.g.

I imagine the issue people have with reading the “white” text is that it generally is flavour text, and are drawn to the numbers (I know I am!).

Keen to hear people’s thoughts on this!

“can’t be done”, since it depends if you’re using 1h, dw, or 2h :sweat_smile:
volley wps shoots 2 per pistol if dual wield, and 3 if you 2h or 1h
just like how shotgun wps will produce twice the listed amount of shot regardless if you’re 1h, 2h or dw, difference is if you’re dw each hand then produces the number of projectiles

With some abilities, this problem doesn’t exist (AQC: can only proc while dual wielding). For others… well damn, I had no idea it had different projectile counts for one vs two weapons. Regarding shotguns: yeah, also complex, although that one should be clearer: you could do 4x main hand, 4x off hand (with the latter only appearing if you have an off hand, like most abilities). The fact that volley et al has a more complex behaviour… that’s why we need clarification! Just as the tooltip can be dynamic for showing the off-hand or not, it could dynamically change from 2x main 2x off to 3x main if you only have one weapon. Maybe not easy to program, but it’d help clear up situations like this.

buuut then you realize other stuff that could be a thing, but isn’t, like shotgun tooltips just straight up listing double the projectiles since they always do that regardless of weapon, only difference is which hand they come from; and on dw mh+of dmg is listed anyway
or how cadence tooltip easily could explain it only scales on 1h despite listing both when dualwielding (because it alternates hands)
etc etc,

guess we will see if that stuff is going to be updated with the localization changes being “unlocked” for devs in patch 1.2 :wink:

oh yea, forgot to mention about salvo, those are “cheat” wps :sweat_smile: it’s just a regular dw shot, nothing fancy, no extra bullets, just 1 from each hand but the wps ensures both hands are used at the time
