I’m no pro player, but I’ve got over 4,000 hours in the game—exclusively in Hardcore mode—and as for Gargabol, “Heart of the Wild” feels completely broken to me. He uses “Sunder” every 5 seconds—and I believe the effect lasts for 4—which has already killed me three times. My character has the Arcanist’s “Nullification,” 25k health, 15% lifesteal, 3,200 Defensive Ability (DA), 3000 armor- even without Golem boots activated— 100% armor absortion, plus 25% damage absorption from “Maiven’s Sphere of Protection,” additional flat absorption from the Phoenix constellation, 80+ in all resistances, 28% physical resistance, a level 14 “Blast Shield,” and “Mirror of Ereoctes”, 200% attack speed and 132k DPS, even the enemy damage-reduction ability from “Light of Empyrion” and one hit is enough to bury you—it’s just ridiculous! Tell me, what else am I supposed to add? 50k base health? 80% physical resistence? Or just play ridiculous top tier builds? You can try to dodge, run, use mirror, blast shield, whatever, use all you want, but if you don’t stop to land some hits, there’s no way to take the guy down—what a “great” design choice, or maybe I just need to learn something else…
You have to dodge the double slam and the Volcanos rest is DPS windows . Gargabol is endurance fight , especially when you run a low DPS build , learn how to position better don’t eat everything like a champ if your build can’t handle it
Are you serious? I just told you that you can run around however you like, use whatever you want, and keep moving for more than 10 minutes—but that’s still not enough for you? You’re insisting on standing perfectly still with melee builds. Besides, how much damage do you actually need—300K per second? I’m not such a beginner that I’d just stand there like a rock, but clearly, that approach isn’t working, is it?
I have 10 K hours in HC and I have died to Gargabol once before 6 years . I am absolutely serious , he is slow and predictable , you have to land proper damaging windows and kite two moves ,he is not pinacle boss , there are 3 mechanics and the plants
Alright it´s fine, but I’ve faced worse with this character and it was no problem—or maybe I should just use my Warder; he can just stand there with 30k health, take things down in 10 hits, and tank every single Sunder hit.
Every build is different you can’t expect same piloting on different setups , obviously tank and bruisers have better time against Gargabol , Sorcerer have to kite if it’s not some top tier spec like Barrelsmith Sorc , it’s how the game works different builds have different performance against specific encounters . Game was walking simulator pre 1.2 now you can’t hold left click and win
I understand the mechanics of the ability and why it was included, but to me, it’s completely unbalanced—even with all the available defenses, it’s all for nothing. I see countless builds out there, all with 15k base life, so I guess I just have to build the most overpowered setup possible… what’s the point of that?
LoE is a % proc and sometimes inconsistant, and his volcano is very deadly. You not die in a singe hit, it’s accumulation of several instant hits.
The point is to realise " ok my build is fine but somehow Ancient Grove is not consistent , I will focus on content that this build performs better " . You don’t have to force 100% content on every build and not every build can cover 100% of the content which is totally fine . I have thematic builds , fresh example is my Demon Hunter ( meme) , it’s below mediocre everywhere but she destroys Bastion of Chaos under 10 mins
I’m aware of the character’s limitations, but I can guarantee that, right up until his death, I was almost never at risk of dying, i can promise you that. I take defenses seriously, but you can’t really know a character’s limitations until you’ve tested them against everything—but well, he’s dead now, lol.
I remember that mechanism from diablo 2, my barbarian died too…
move from sunder, move from volcanoes, kill plants so you dont’ get globbed, dont’ stand in flame spurts, it’s very very rudimentary type boss arena/encounter.
The volcano has a relative decent CD so you don’t have to do anything special other than move from it, then you can deal with sunder/plants separately. He will lean over and touch the ground, that’s your cue to start moving (don’t even have to sprint, just stay mobile until 2nd volcano appears). Then reengage garga and rinse repeat
Gargabol fight needs a little strategy, his volcano is deadly but the channeling and very clear, his slam hits tremendous dmg (not 1hit) too but both slow and can be avoid quite easily. You have to dodge the slam and not standstill on the volcano eruption, otherwise you are free to hit.
Btw, LoE is not a good choice for Sor xd.
Uber Lilith and Nila are stupid xd.
I don’t know—the volcano isn’t the issue, but the “sunder” effect persists 90% of the time. One hit is acceptable, but with two hits, there’s no guarantee of survival, even with all these defenses… okay, so the build just isn’t sufficient.
You can’t just say something isn’t a good choice—you don’t even know what the build is. Stop taking everything you hear from someone on YouTube…
like i said, if you can’t deal with sunder just move from it. Either use a movement rune, teleport/leap/disnegage/rush, or evade if you want it simple, or run around him for the 3secs it lasts/run and kill some plants.
It’s truly not that complicated, and if you’re trying to ignore multiple fight elements to purely 100% static facetank, then you’re not “listening” to the boss’ attack moves if it turns out lethal. - there is no need to build 100k hp 8000 armour and 60% phys res etc, just dance with the boss instead.
I think you guys have played way too much and have forgotten how to read. I’m not a beginner—if you find it easy, good for you; or maybe you just play things that are completely overpowered. I know perfectly well what “hit and run” is; before this game, I spent countless hours playing Diablo 2 and 3, all on Hardcore mode. And yes, Sunder is definitely unbalanced—I spent 15 minutes running away from that damn guy, only to end up dying anyway. But I guess you guys are the “pros,” right?
Someone got trigger easily? You not even listen, try to adapt/change the playstyle, and force ppl to understand it is not your fault but game design?
II’m telling you that I’m not standing in front of him, but you won’t accept that… what can I do? It seems I’m not allowed to have an opinion when it comes to professionals. If you like the way things work, that’s your problem—I don’t, and that’s my right.
… you don’t have to be a pro… you have to watch, and react, that’s it, or “listen” to what your fellow players tell you.
Sunder isn’t unbalanced; because sunder doesn’t kill you, it’s a debuff, that gives you time to react and respond accordingly to your char’s needs or capabilities.
You have multiple ways to deal with this, if you’re running for 15minutes it suggests you’re doing it wrong and running too much, ie possibly over-reacting
You can beat this boss in a regular build, nothing fancy, you can beat it in levelling builds, you don’t have to be pro or git gud dark souls player, you just have to pay attention to the arena and respond apprpriately to what your char can handle.
He only sunders you standing in front, so when he begins to sunder you either move before the sunder is even applied, or you move after. And either way you move from volcanoes because those are its own attack check, don’t try to stand in them regardless how tanky you feel, because they can hit for way more than one might assume (because they are slow telegraphed)
So either listen to your fellow non pro but experienced players, or listen to the boss. Every boss can be defeated by watching and adapting accordingly to its design, no busted/ube OP or broken build required, because devs don’t do that here (they test bosses in yellow gear iirc)
