Backed this on kickstarter and finally got around to taking a dip into it and ended up utterly hooked. Beautiful (and often disturbing as hell) world, addictive exploration, simple but hard to master combat and it also helps that you can actually make money semi-easily. Which with a few other gameplay balance stuff leads to Skies being a hell of a lot easier to get into than sailing on the Zee in Sunless Seas.
Feels slightly empty though, due to not all the story content being complete or fully implemented (war in the Reach for example). And having come from other space games the lack of civilian traffic kind of sucks, since I can’t go the space pirate route.
Still, I see myself tempting madness and worse for a while longer, and possibly killing a certain Sun, because the ice around it isn’t ice /shudder
Looks interesting, and from some of the EA reviews, like they took lessons from some of the complaints about Sunless Sea.
Definitely one I’ll keep an eye on. I like the universe they’ve built, and this gives us a good, different way to interact with it.
I may also just have a soft spot for “it’s a classic time period, BUT NOT!” style stuff. Maybe this’ll push someone to give us a good new Weird West game.
