Sustained abilities should not deactivate when you run out of energy. As it reserved that particular amount we should technically never be able to run out of energy as there is always that reserved amount. It just is a bummer to have all your sustained stuff drop in the middle of a fight because you didn’t drink a potion in time.
They don’t. Only those that have energy cost / s and don’t reserve Energy can go away if you’re drained.
And what is it that prevents you from taking a potion?

Hrm, then I don’t know what is happening. If I go to 0 energy it turns off all my sustained abilities.
Nothing is preventing me from drinking, I just don’t always hit it in time.
Which abilities in particular? What do you mean by “sustained”?
In the OP you mentioned abilities that reserve Energy.
They are not gone if you’re depleted from my experience.
some abilities have both a sustained cost + a mana per second cost
like counter strike iirc has a mana cost per “usage”/when it attacks
if it’s neither of those cases then it’s likely you just got nullied by arcane enemies or grava

Olweon’s Rage, Spectral Binding, Aether-Ward and Field Command. They all go poof once I run out of energy
Some of the abilities are mana/per but would that cause all of them to poof? Even the ones that aren’t mana/per
Are you sure you’re not just nullified in these moments?

You could play with Grim Internals, it can display a message / play a sound that you’ve been nullified.
Or pay attention to Nullification attacks.
Or wait till 1.2 patch where buffs are not going to be gone permanently.

I think you are probably right. I just sat in town and burned down my energy bar and my buffs didn’t poof. Ok, so I was just getting debuffed, I thought something hinky was going on, haha. Thanks for the info you all!

Yea, 1.2 looks like there are going to be a ton of changes. I was early access but stopped playing for many years and just picked it back up recently when D4 fell flat
