[tech] geforce 2060 and temperatures on grim dawn

I recently built a new pc setup and my 2060 keeps overheating while on grim dawn.
with a custom fan curve I’m almost always at 90%+ fan speed (3000 rpm on 2 little fans on my inno3d 2060 twin x2) and 75° C or more. even on menus in the char selection screen.
I play with almost everything max quality, full hd, 144 hz with vsync (freesync compatible monitor for nvidia cards), I use windowed borderless mode with 2 monitors and usually just firefox open on the 2nd one, sometime streaming something, but without gd the temp never goes above 40°C
changing to 60 hz didn’t change anything, getting 2 more fans in my case didn’t change anything… anyone got some ideas? some experience with these cards overheating? i’ve not found much online about grim dawn specifically tho.

actually when i’m in the char selection screen the card overheats more than while in game…

My laptop is always burning hot whenever i run the game, even on lowest settings. The game runs fine but i definitely worry for my laptops health, but then again its a 4 year old machine so. Not exactly top of the line.

Dont play with shadows on ultra. just use very high. Solved the problem for me on a GTX1070.

Same here. My laptop is 6 and half years and even after full clean is making angry noises  Temperatures are quite high and performance is further worsened. But it’s normal for games, not just GD.

i actually leave it to high since i don’t really care about shadows. forgot that.

anyway laptops aren’t really meant for gaming, unless they are gaming laptops but still you can’t expect it to not overheat… i have plenty of space, 4 big fans to take air in and out of the case and still the card overheats… some games present the problem, others don’t.

I have an FPS indicator in games, and I’ve found that if vsync isn’t on, FPS shoots way up. Like over 1000 FPS in the menu, and I can get 80-100 in the game itself. My monitor runs at 60 Hz, so that performance is completely unnecessary, but it does seem to impact GPU heat.

That’s in addition to everything else mentioned, esp. graphics settings.

I have GTX 1050 4Gb. I use MSI Afterburner. the temp in games never goes higher than 40-45 C (and I have only 2 system in and out fans. Nothing else). And I’m having 32 C in my room over here  Sure 2080 heat output is much higher but still should not be that high. What are the temperatures when you play other games? Have you tried reporting that bug in nvdia official forum?

well, mine is a 2060, from benchmarks I see those getting around 70°C but not constantly. I’ve yet to test properly on other games, league of legends and dota underlords don’t go past 40°C. also yesterday by playing shattered realm with my summoner i never went past 65° and stood on 50-60 most of the time, dunno why on loading screen it goes back to 75°
