Templar Battleforce

I picked this game up a few days ago, and really enjoying it. So I thoought I would give it a shout out. its been out for a while, and but very much supported by the dev /s. In fact as new update is coming soon from what I read.

So what is the game?

Its a turn based game, where you control Templars in large mechanised suits. there are different classes, each with different skills and gear.

Captain - You start with this unit every battle, can be customised for range / melee, range only, or melee only

Scout - faster moving unit, also a sniper, has stealth abilities.

Engineer - can be used to deploy turrets, capture TP (tactical point, used to call in reinforcements)

Soldier - basic range attacker with burst fire and overwatch

Hydra - flamethrower unit, also resistant to fire, (don’t know much about them as I not unlocked the class)

Neptune - heavy soldier, slower then the others, but can do more damage, but generates more heat (more on heat later)

Paladin - healer and melee unit

Berserker - melee specialist, used to end enemies sooner using melee attacks.

Anyway, The game does a good job of explaining stuff, you start with your captain, then you gain a soldier and your first mission with another unit (major) to hold the line and seal the blast doors. Missions seem pretty varied as well, granted that I not got that far into the game.

now here is where things get interesting.
before your start your next mission, you can upgrade your troops. You have a skill tree that you can use RP to unlock new abilities and wargear. (gaining RP and XP is done by completing objectives and doing missions sooner, (each mission has a turn limit) if you complete the mission on or before that turn limit, you gain more RP and XP, and that will decrease if you take more turns after that.

All your troops that join your squad, you can upgrade, attributes points, Fortitude, (health), Strength (damage) etc, then also on each level up, you gain a stat point, Gunnery (range damage), Warrior (melee damage) etc

and lastly, every few levels, you gain a skill point, skills can be unlocked via the skill tree, (the skill tree can not be respected)

While skills, attributes and stat points can be respected at any time and is free. (sometimes respecing is a good idea before a mission)

Then you can change gear for the selected Templar, gear is governed by the gear level, as you level up, you have more gear points, and gear uses points to equip, so if your templar has 8 gear points, and is already maxed, you can’t equip a piece of gear that will exceed that.

The game is very tactical, has quite a few skill levels, including Iron man, a new game plus (a new game ++ and - is coming.

Oh yes, when you do an action, )most actions) it generates heat, if you generate too much heat, your units will take damage. And sometimes the enemies will come thick and fast.

Oh yes, the game is top down, I should have mentioned that earlier. Still, this game is fun, and quite challenging at the same time.

If you like Trun based games, then you will probably enjoy this. As I only recently picked it up, and enjoying it a lot, I thought I would give it a mention. And not that expensive either. A bargain, especailly with a lot of gameplay and tactics on offer.

Oh yes the music is pretty good as well. And its got overwhelming positive on steam. So there you have it, what more do I need to say?

i have it but i didn’t play a lot, you could be interested in another Trese Bros. game that takes place in the same universe/lore : star traders : frontiers.

I played it quite a bit and it’s a blast, basically a sandbox space game with heavy rpg elements.

Sounds a bit like Chaos Gate with the ™s filed off…

I’ll check it out, as that is exactly up my alley.

Chaos Gate was awesome, I think T BF is better, so worth checking out if you like these kinds of games.

@They Live
I heard of star traders, I think T:BF takes place 200 years before that one.

The T:BF takes a lot of thinking to do right, but seems to be deeply rewarding if you do play it well.

I kept seeing it on the store page and thought I would check it out, but really glad I did.

There is an “old” star traders. The new project is star traders: Frontiers. I played 70ish hrs and it has been a fun ride, i will play more once it gets 1.0 , they update it at a good pace.

Got the game, does look interesting, so thanks for the tip on that one.

Got to admit mind, T:BF sure gets interesting after you done the tutorial missions, and man, they do ramp up in difficulty. did one mission that was a gauntlet, opening and closing airlocks as I head south to the exit. Managed to do it on my second try, but lost a man. so yeah, great game. going to be interesting to try out this ST:F and see how that plays!

Last run i fired all my officers at day 1 and promoted fighting guys from the crew to replace them ( cause officers can wear special gear) then i equipped my ship with low hull dmg/geavy radiation dmg weapons to kill enemy crew. That an boarding does wonders : Those smugglers ship gets defetead without structural dmg so you can steal all the cargo. My capn was pirate/smuggler/merchant for boarding talents + maximum selling profit. It was so fun.
