Old Gaming Fart here and i has a question to you guys as i am a bit “confused”.
I’m having roughly 450 hrs in GD but i have not played for a looong time (yeah i know, i should have played and left all other games aside as GD is the only thing to do)
So when the new expansion comes, i would like to jump right back in. The problem is tho, i can not recall (that dam age) how the story and such alike was back then. So what to do?
Shall i start a new character and play the base game + the 2 DLC’s and THEN start the new expansion? Or shall i start a new character and play until i can go straight into Astrakan and ignore the rest? Or something inbetween?
I honestly ask for advise here as age makes me dull in my everso dull head. Old Fart needs a suggested direction here. Do you guys have any advice for me?
Thx for reading and perhaps helping out! <3
guess it depends how easily you keep track of the different context
If you play when FoA becomes unlockable you’ll have completed the base game, but AoM ties up the base game story
Chronologically the order is Base Game, AoM, FoA, FG. So that’s also an option instead of going by release year order.
But you can technically access FG already after act 1 if you choose too.
I would say play base game and both expansions before jumping into the new one. Zantai has said that FoA comes before FG, but I think you’d just do as well to play that before tackling the new expansion since you haven’t played for such a long time.
Exactly what I would say! Play through the rest and get ready to jump in when it releases. This is particularly true if you haven’t played in a long time. There have been so many good changes to GD over the years.
All right then. I’ll start from scratch and get the “full thing”. I’ll go and get some coffee rdy for some long nights. Thx you all! Old man happy here now ^^
D2 had The Horadric Cube.
D3 had Kanai’s Cube.
D4 had that little Hellraiser side quest.
Honestly, I was looking forward to some type of nod in the direction of the Lamentation Box in Grim Dawn. Especially, if the devs got really clever with the flavor text.
Movies? First 2 were great. Second 2 were good. The other sequels were just horrible, save for Hellraiser Judgement. That one was awesome, especially since it expanded on the lore. The remake with the chick was a complete waste of time. The dumbest one out of all of them.
Back to Grim Dawn. In my opinion, The Cenobites would make for a great addition to the Aetherials. I would love to see that. Of course, The Great Imagination Brush™ would have to be used for all the obvious reasons.
“I’ll rip your Souls apart…”
Man these Movies where…i was there back then…
First Movie, for me “The One” was just awesome. Second was “so lala” and the other one …meh. But that is taste ofc Glad you liked them. I am “Pinhead” ever since
So many good lines. “You opened the box, we came.” “We have so many sights to show you.” “Don’t cry, it’s a waste of good suffering.” For me, Hell on Earth was good because it continued where Hellbound left off. Plus, that Pillar that Pinhead was affixed to was just A+ awesomeness.
Have you seen Event Horizon (RIP Sam Niel)? That gave me major Hellraiser vibes. Well, that and anything Lovecraftian*.
Also, last off topic comment, the Fire Marshal Bill skit (Jim Carrey at his best) when he is in the classroom and he falls to the ground and he gets up and he has a bunch of thumb tacks stuck to his head. “Then you look like Pinhead.”
*That’s one of the reasons I love Grim Dawn so much. That cosmic horror can’t be beat. After I made my Death Knight many years ago, early Covid, I made a Necromancer and named him Herbert West. Maybe I should do that again, just for fun, and name it… The Grim Reanimator!
Event Horizon was soooo good! I loved that a Ton. As for the quote, iÄll be honest, i can not recall them sadly. It is to long that i saw the movies But in these days and soooo much Series to watch and such alike it is tricky to go back as a day still has “just” 24 hrs And the “Grim Reanimator” sounds like a good Idea
What I am going to do is this.
1a) study the GD Item database - see what changed, what are new items, new sets, new affixes, suffixes, Ascended affixes, Awakened items …
1b) study the Cairn World Map - get the general glimpse, if I am going to walk in more open spaces, narrow paths…
1c) some builds re-touch ASAP, (cold Trickster and chaos Warlock), some come “under the knife” later
2a) the first brave char to walk through the new areas will be Aether AAR Spellbinder, which uses only two skills (AAR and Mark of Torment), the constellations were picked to heal and save from death… to see, how the Ultimate difficulty feels.
2b) if the Ultimate feels god, I am going to try Ultimate with that new “Veteran” option
3) after all pistol and rifle builds are re-touched, try them in the new areas
4) patiently wait for upcoming updates with new or updated items and new “rogue-like” dungeons.
