The new Shattered Guardian set is a disappointment

After I’ve heard that a new super secret Shattered Realms set was announced, I was pretty hyped to see, what it is, that mysterious reward for all your efforts…

What is this? A new Lokkar’s Set wannabe? But, well, why is it lvl 94?! The exact lvl, when you can wear normal sets! Chances are, even to get to the deep Shard, where the set starts to spawn, you need a fully geared character, that doesn’t need this set.
Ok, well, I guess it’s kinda designed for characters that don’t have all of their set pieces, just as a replacement. But if I have a character that is able to reach deep shards, I’d rather farm stuff for my new guy with him, rather than use the new guy with the Sattered Guardian set to farm normal items for himself!

Well, tbh, the set has some nice resistances but the % damage on this is terrible. The only thing that is actually worth farming is the set’s amulet, that one is pretty nice and that’s all.

I don’t know, Crate, this set doesn’t make any sense to me.

We don’t intend for the set to be build-defining as then there would be outcry over the difficulty in acquiring it.

It serves as a prestigious reward first and foremost, a unique appearance based upon some of Forgotten Gods most powerful foes.

(I’ll also add that feedback on Forgotten Gods gear based on Grimtools and not gameplay experience is not going to be taken seriously)

Well, yes, I do like how it looks. But I was hoping to get some unique gameplay experience with this set (smth like that new Panneti’s set, that adds cooldown to skill and increases the total damage), but it’s just another illusion placeholder (with a good amulet though).

I like it. I’ve not used the full set yet, but from my experience the individual pieces are pretty damn nice. If you have a build with nothing better to offer it in a particular slot, sticking one or two of these in can give you some great all-purpose defensive boosts. It definitely has a solid role, even if it’s not a build-defining one.

I tried it and it’s a pretty good all purpose set. It does not do anything…special or huge damage. But it is versatile. And on the right class combo it’s quite tanky with that proc. Amulet is indeed good for so many builds

And how would you go about creating this “unique” gameplay experience without making it class specific? The set is meant as a prize for any mastery and so it is generic.

You expected generic set to do something unique? That is the purpose of the set, to be generic. And each part of the set is actually pretty good (except the helm really) for when you don’t have any option and you can just slap it on a build.

Well, why is this a reward for completing difficult shards, if it’s just a generic set, that nobody is going to actually use on most builds (exсept for the amulet of course)? It could be a quest reward or smth.

I personally don’t mind it being a 3 class set, or even a set with some interesting item skill with all the set pieces supporting it somehow. But right now, it’s just a good amulet and 3 illusion items and I find it pretty depressing :frowning:

Think of it as a quest reward for getting so far into SR as you did.

I actually really like generic set like this.
It will be a good replacement for 1.0.6.1 iskandra that we really missed…

move the 4 piece granted skill to the 3 piece bonus and replace the 4 piece +1 to all skills with a granted exclusive skill that increases all skills by 3 and grants +200% to all damage.

The set has some pretty decent stats and it can be used on all class combinations. It had to be of global use or there would be no point collecting it for some classes.

I think it could have had something interesting on it. As well as the defensive skill another more interesting unique skill for damage/debuff/utility.

I think this set is quite good. I mean, sure, as a set it’s not something you’d want to wear, but the parts of this set are actually useful for builds that need damage/resist boost and you can’t get anything that would be BiS. There are some builds you just search a good item for minutes and can’t find anything (on GT), so this set can fit everything. The amulet is very good, imo, and the rest is just good as a replacement. I’d even think about using this set because it’s not the worst.

The only issue I have with this set is that the damage bonuses are on the low side, I would like them a little higher so I can make weird physical casters with it. On that note, perhaps some energy regeneration?

Wait, people think this set is bad?
The defensive bonuses are very strong, it has massive flat health and it covers several of the secondary resists, I actually thought it shouldn’t have the CC resists on the pieces and the set bonus as well.

It might not have individual skill bonuses/modifiers but it has the nice +2 all skills that goes a long way on classes like OK, Soldier and Inquisitor, etc. and many of the best modifiers come from the weapon slots that are left open.

Looking at it from another way: for builds that don’t have a dedicated set or items with good individual skill bonuses, this set can provide an above average filler while also granting excellent defenses which allow you to take on a more offensive build with your mastery and devotion setup.
It also takes away the need for realistically unattainable items like Stonehide/Kings boots, for a set with a dedicated farming spot I think it provides a lot of new options.

So it definitely has a role in the scheme of things, just not one the OP wants perhaps.

Well, it’s kind of bad for a caster build since it has no energy regen, but otherwise I will agree. It’s heavy armor, and that’s fine, but it does exclude a lot of builds because of it.

I wholeheartedly agree with Weyu, as i usually do. As somebody who loves to make weired off-the-beaten-path builds, i’m very happy that now there is a set with versatile and strong defensive boni, that can fill holes in pretty much any quirky build, i can come up with.

I see your points, but I still don’t like the idea of making a “jack of all trades master of none” set that special something, that you are supposed to get for your hard work in the realms. I get, that it’s defensive and all, but the defence on it’s own won’t get you far in this game. And this set is also kinda limited for making some crazy build concepts, imo. And the lack of sets for some class combos isn’t an excuse for the Shattered Guardian.

I just don’t get it it. This the ICONIC SHATTERED REALMS SET! It could have been something cool, like the armor of an ancient warrior, that was forever lost in the Realms and now the armor is tainted with the power of the Mysterious Shattered Realm force or smth, it could have had badass procs, like flying projectiels, with the Shattered Realm portal texture or even some crazy warp ability, specific to this set…

But it’s just a super basic defensive boring set.
