I plopped my TC right next to a ruin, and in the time where I’ve been trying to decide if I should keep it around as some sort of haunted rite of passage for the youth (since it dropped the Ark of the Vengeful Dead) or remove it because no self-respecting town would let such a source of stone go to waste, I discovered that it also doesn’t quite fit on its footprint:

I’ve built close to one but never kept them, choosing to delete them after getting the artifact.
