Zantai said he thinks playtesting of v0.9.2 will start in February.
From a Steam thread:
"We’re still sorting through all of the new combat mechanics. Soldier recruitment was pretty much ripped out and redone from the ground up to be more robust and flexible.
I imagine we’ll be able to preview it in a livestream by the end of the month and start the playtest in February."

Yes, you can move them. Drag select over the tower, right click to move. Then you can right click to attack raiders and they do so. So then they can use their swords too.
