There Needs to be a "Hardcore" Indicator for characters on the Character Select Screen

I hadnt played GD in quite a while… maybe 6 months or more. Couldnt really remember what all was going on with most of my characters. Decided to play again, and picked a character at random to play. She was a level 34 Spellbinder.

Selected her, got into the game, was running around tearing stuff up and just getting my bearings on how to play again… but after about 10 minutes of playing, I died… No big deal… I’ll just respawn and… oh whats this… I’m looking at the character select screen and my character is all gray and the “start game” button is not clickable… Well gee, apparently that character was on “hardcore” mode and now they’re lost forever because I didnt know she was hardcore and really didnt know how to play…

To be clear, this isnt a rage post, I’m not angry. I actually found it kind of funny. It’s been so long ago that I played I dont really recall the character and have lost any attachment to the time and effort I had invested in it… But still, I sure wish I would have known when I selected her that she was in hardcore mode. I almost certainly would have chose a different character, at the very least I would have been more careful not to die lol. There really should be something that makes it very obvious that a character is in hardcore mode on the character select so a player knows whats goin on when they select them after a long hiatus. I didnt even get that bit of excitement I should have got when she died, had I knew she was in hardcore mode.

Anyways, thanks for reading.

Ah yes, a golden haze. Surely, more than obvious to someone who hasnt played in months and remembers nothing about the game what that golden haze means. Lol… Honestly, I didnt even notice the golden haze when I chose the character. Had I noticed I would have assumed it was attributed to the gear she was wearing or maybe a permanent buff from the class or something. So… yea, not exactly something that stands out to someone that hasnt played in a bit.

not disagreeing with the menu thing
but i always wondered
how do people miss the hardcore tag, once ingame?

Okay sure. Maybe you don’t know what a golden haze means, understandable.

Yea, didnt see that either. It is pretty tiny. You gotta keep in mind, I hadnt played in a long time. I couldnt remember how to open the quest log or the hotkey for a health or energy pot… I had been playing a whole 10 minutes just learning how to play again, didnt exactly take the time to take every little detail of the UI in on screen, who does? It’s easy to miss in that situation. Hell I dont even think I remembered “hardcore” was even an option.

Like I said, it should be obvious to anyone upon selecting the character what’s up… Like when you click “start game” a little pop up window that says “hey this character is in hardcore mode, death is permanent, are you sure you want to proceed?” or something like that… Something that spells it out and is deliberately in your face.

Game already does that when you create a new character in hardcore, having it do more times would be annoying.

A filter or sorting option for the character list would be great, so you can check HC and only HC chars will be listed, or sort the list to show HC chars first. Maybe some other filter options too like difficulty reached, time played etc  This would be a witchgodsend for players with hundreds of chars

I sorted my char list manually by coloring all SC char names (one color for each damage type) and leaving the HC chars white, so they are sorted to the top of the list. That’s a nice workaround because colored names look cool but it’s still just a workaround, would love to have some official options.

Could also just add HC at the beginning of a character’s name so that you know. I do similar for one of the mods I play so I know they’re not for the Grimarillion mod, but another one.
