Things you are still genuinely surprised by in Grim Dawn

There is no need for potent or extra components because the effect of extra component could be relegated to improving the already existing potent augments. They had received a pass before and potent is generally better than two non-potent augments now, but addition of such powerful components as Seals disturbed the even before shaky equilibrium.

Mythical Potent augments!

Jokes aside but it would had been great if revered items from vanilla factions were moved to honored, and the revered tab was filled with variants updated to level 90 standarts. Like, super-elite Legion Warblade, etc. This might include weapon/ring components, since besides few very, very good ones like Creed’s Cunning they are currently obsolete compared to those of AoM factions.

I disagree with AoM weapon/rings augments being better than vanilla’s. In fact, i think most of them suck, bad. Unless you’re a pet build, i don’t see Survivor’s Ingenuity ever being topped (instead of nerfing it, buff the others) in the ring and jewel augment department.

You already mentioned Creed’s Cunning, there’s also Creed’s Guile (Flat pierce and flat OA with % pierce and cold), there’s also Outcast Might and Outcast Wrath (aether damage, flat health, OA and damage against aetherials). The rest either suck compare to these or are just slight upgrades. Very few are actually full blown upgrades. There’s also that Ravager’s Eye weapon augment which is pretty good, but that’s one of the very few that is actually good.

Unless you’re a pet build, i don’t see Survivor’s Ingenuity ever being topped (instead of nerfing it, buff the others) in the ring and jewel augment department.

Sometimes Sylvarria´s Essence could be the better choice due to Poison Resistance. Saves an augment slot on armor for other things.

Also Coven’s Terror and a few others

I’ve needed the odd Wraith’s Scream to max my stun resist in a build or two.

5% of really outstanding augments like Creed’s Cunning, Outcast’s Wrath and Survivor’s Ingeniuity doesn’t really prove your point because there are the rest 95% that could use at least the %damage upgrade to AoM levels.

Those 5% of vanilla augments are better than 90% of AoM augments. Not mention a 40% extra modifier damage for an augments 40 levels above is pathetic and basically worthless. My point is that AoM augments should be all better by default because of the much higher level requirement, but around 90% of them are terrible compared to much lower level vanilla augments.

Vanilla lvl 50 augments are balanced with level 85 characters in mind, while AoM lvl 90 augments are balanced with level 100 characters in mind, in which case 1.5 times increase of damage affixes looks ok. 1H legendaries also got 1.5 times increase on mythicals (2H legendaries had more than 2.0 times increase, so potent augments are lagging behind, sort of). The way I perceive it the problem is extra effects - AoM components love resistances as extra effects while typically this is what armor components are for. The reason Creed’s Cunning is so good is it has three secondary effects (OA, HP, energy regen), and two of them are top notch. ‘Meh’ components tend to have two secondary effects and one of them is typically less desired (energy regen, resistance) compared to others (flat dmg on 1H, HP, OA, racial damage, etc).

What I’m suggesting is upgrade all augments for the new level cap, which would be a formal rejection of “they are low lvl anyway, duh” reasoning and will lay the groundwork for further tunings.

Topic derailed

I saw the thread about monsters wielding uniques just now, that blew my mind and makes me want to play zoomed in more

I’m on my first playthrough so I’m surprised by pretty much everything
But the most surprising thing for me overall is how much of a grip this game already has on me
Is it just me?

Not really, but I have strong obsessive tendencies with my gaming so I’m weird like that

Things like 5th drop of same Lege/Epic in a row.

1200+ hours and this game still has a grip on me even though it frustrates me to no end in some ways.

What genuinely still surprises me is when a piece of gear or hitting a level to equip gear just brings a build together.

What also genuinely surprises is how often I cock up a build by trying to respec and bollocksing it completely
