This is Probably The Most Disappointed I Have Been With a Crate Update

I don’t really understand the whole point of doing a complete overhaul of the UI and/or engine changes, if this was the last DLC y’all were going to release.

You should have just waited until GD 2…

You essentially took a well polished game, and sent it back to feeling like it’s in EA.

You absolutely destroyed multiplayer. I literally went from having minimal issues every few hours to constant crashing, black screens, problems connecting to my friends games, targeting issue, etc.

The biggest issue is the random constant crashing that appears to be based on your character’s position to that of the hosts. I’ve had problems with this in the The Flooded Passage and now Burwitch village. I’ve hosted, he’s hosted and it’s the same thing. You log in, teleport, take 5 steps, and the game crashes. This is ridiculous.

Please acknowledge you’re actually looking into bugs impacting multiplayer and actively working on them.

I don’t know much about multiplayer in GD.
But the UI changes also irritated me. I’m now used to it because I have no other option. At least they allowed us to go back to the old HUD. But I certainly preferred the older colors and style.

There’s a level of vanity in modern software design: this strange belief that a familiar interface is a problem and needs to be changed. Not because the old design has failed in any way, but because change itself has become synonym of progress. The cost of this I-know-better attitude is transferred to the user and they have to absorb another round of arbitrary conventions, because they have no choice.

I’m also a software developer and architect. For over 30 years professionally. I do work in a completely different industry where these costs are much higher and we never (well, rarely) take the risk: industry automation.

But there is a clear reason why it is so. A mature interface should be treated like infrastructure: you improve what is broken, extend what is missing, and leave everything else alone. Stability and familiarity is not stagnation. In software, it is one of the most valuable features a user can have.

There are several bug reports in the bug section if you take a look, and some of them have already been addressed
They can’t address stuff that’s not reported at all, and MP has been notoriously hard to bug fix in the past with some stuff troublesome to reproduce on their end and lacking information to pinpoint

But they’ve still bug fixed MP stuff before and now, i do not see them just giving up and abandoning that part entirely and suddenly now.

Tons of bug reports roll in, not even all the SP stuff is fixed yet, so there’s just XY work to be done still while the inbox adds on.
*PTR also has a very small participation, and fewer still in that segment does MP as i understood, so when the gates open more variables come suddenly rushing in than the smaller segment lucked out experiencing in playtest

Maybe too harsh but I feel it similarly. 1.2.1.6 was so polished and balanced…

There were bound to be bugs and balance issues with such huge changes to the game. It would be more realistic to compare with the state immediately after AoM or FG. No doubt there will be a 1.3.1 and a lot of stuff will start to be smoothed out.

I am very much in sympathy with that general view. I think a lot of changes to UIs are just pissing about for no reason. However, I don’t think that’s what happened here. There were some serious functional shortcomings in the old UI, such as that the main menu screen illegible on a 4K screen (and pretty hard to read on 2K). And there have been real QoL improvements, like the component stash. During the 1.3 testing I mulled at one point reverting to 1.2.1.6 and decided I didn’t want to deal with the UI degradation.

It does seem the MP experience has been rough. I don’t play MP so haven’t experienced that.

“The biggest expansion has the biggest number of bugs” was to be expected.

You can’t really judge the level of commitment of the devs based on how many bugs slipped through the mesh before release: it’s on how quickly they are addressed once discovered. And on that front, as far as we can tell, Crate seem to be doing a great job.

Comparing a new version of the game to how stable the last one was is also unfair, given how much time they’ve had to polish the last iteration.

Yeah I was fully expecting a rather rough launch since that’s just sort of the expectation for any RPG of such size and complexity getting such a huge addition. Still, I’ve sorta been avoiding the game because of all the problems, it’s just not fun for me atm. hopefully the majority of the issues get resolved by the end of the month at least.

And it took a bunch of updates to get there. People out here thinking certain states of the game weren’t achieved after several hotfixes and updates, specially after content releases.

I get it but some are denying it sometimes…
