Mage Hunter Theory
I have been trying to make my own build from scratch after playing through a few builds I have seen online. I was really happy with the armor/class/skill synergy (and it was an interesting idea), but it feels like I did something wrong… somewhere. I needed so many res powders and I have so little health. Perhaps the helm is too low power, even though it is functionally perfect. Maybe my devotions are misplaced/greedy. Any advice would be appreciated.
Apparently you cannot edit links. Sorry, had the investment off.
New setup
new user limitation, gotta wait like 48 hours or something until you unlock full access (edit etc). - anti bot spam measure
Health looks scary low ngl
- i don’t know how many players it applies to now with FoA, but i’d consider even 15k low hp these days, so atleast to my eyes/comfort, you’d need to scrounge up like another 5k hp somewhere
YMMV
This is why you don’t do a full purple item builds. Most of the time you need green pants with the suffix “of vitality”, and use augments in weapons that also have flat hp or %hp. Barrowholm %4hp augment is also quite useful if you already have all your resistances capped.
Aside that, your build has other huge problems-. You’re pairing a channeling ability like Panetti with a spamming ability like Trozan, you can’t cast both at once (if at least one of them was a cast and forget skill like devastation, there would be a way). Spear of hevens is aimed at chars with sustain, and yours doesn’t look like it has any.
trozan isn’t spammed, it’s a 3sec cd skill, that here gets bumped to 4sec for a big dmg bonus, “nuke” inclusion, little different than going AA+doom bolt on harbinger (only question is if it has enough dmg as nuke ofc)
Purples can be fine, here there is just very few of them with health, with even fewer comps or augs with health. Likewise relatively low health snatched on devo route (scythe being the sole contributor)
Not saying a “off vitality” pants wouldn’t be a thing, but it’s not something we always need to fix stuff ex Warlock, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.8) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator Reaver, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.8) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator Veilwalker, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.8) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator hmm thought i had a fourth recently made Evoker, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.8) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator![]()
Regardless, it does seem I was a little too greedy in some places. I thought the spear was a bit much after taking it. My last few go rounds were Purifier and Pred Sentinel, so this was just a new attempt to try something totally different without looking things up for once.
just a quick shuffle, nothing super optimized Mage Hunter, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.8) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
Oh wow, that’s way better. Thank you so much.
“edit”, lmao, just noticed/forgot i ripped out seal so it lost 25 ele res
“small details” ![]()
Calling it a nuke is incredibly generous. It gets a couple of extra projectiles and some flat lightning boost dmg that would still be peanuts in dps compared to a more standarized trozan build with lower cdr.
You posted A single build where an almost full purple build works, out of thousands that does indeed work better on average with a mix of purples and greens. Using a rare exemption of META pathing feels disingenous.
Not saying that green pants with “of vitality” suffix is mandatory. I’m saying is among the most common way to boost up health. That and switching ring components to corpse dust and/or mixing the barroholm augment as I pointed out earlier.
Edit: I made a deeper inspection on the builds. One of them has a busted belt with up to 7% hp and pants that have as much hp as any green pants of vitality and weapong augments with %hp. How is that any different than what I stated earlier?
how is it “a” build, when none of them use vitality suffix? or big HP affixes for that matter?
That was the whole point that we don’t need to solve HP on greens… - and i literally fixed it on OPs “again showing we don’t need a dozen greens with hp”
again, that is not the relevant part; it’s not a spam trozan setup, so it does not interrupt PRM spam… “unlike you said”, it’s a big CD skill, with increased CD here, it’s allagast trozan, not Trozan trozan. There is no conflict/certain spam skills weaving in CD skills is not that abnormal…
The important factor is whether it pays off/is worth the skill investment. And here the main part is Trozan (full set dedicated to it); so prm is kinda the “filler” because of including it. - if anything i’m kinda wondering what inquis is doing here
since OP smartly ignored box for PRM comfort
That part’s easy. I was messing with PRM and wanted to build it. Noticed how hard it was to unify the damage on it. One thing led to another and this Aether spam abomination was what I cobbled together. I could not find a better way to unify all of PRM’s elemental types under one banner for resistance removal.
Lee has pure Aether PRM toon somewhere if that’s what’s the goal
You added scorched runes to patch up the lack of hp weaking it’s already low armor state and reducing it’s armor rating to 95% and took away inquisitor seal. This is like saying that you fixed a pothole by throwing a blanket on top of it.
The relevant part is that a non spammable and barely upgraded high cd ability is vastly inferior to a most standarized kind of build with low cd and high damage per second.
A filler ability doesn’t take away half of your points gutting other more important supporting abilities like inquisitor seal or Iskandra or Inner Focus.
I really don’t need to waste my time with your “fixes” that screw up standarized successful way to build characters with “snake oil”.
enjoy Inquisitor seal is not in a good spot
“barely upgraded”; has multiple modifiers - you either just misunderstand what a support skill is, or somehow think all CD skills must be turned to purely spams, /![]()
OP doesn’t have a standard build, if they want a regular pure Aether PRM it’s available, as was said, so i stay within the design concept
as for “standard”, the whole reason you have that “of vitality meta pathing” notion, is because all those standards you tout are GDstashed.
Likewise there is absolutely nothing wrong with allowing people’s concept to stay intact if possible(if so desired), because pure meta is not the only way, ie you don’t have to always be a pure PRM spammer just because you do, just like you do not have to turn every trozan into a 0.5sec pseudo spam skill…
And it’s beyond ridiculous to not only pretend, but apply/claim as if either is remotely accurate…
Insert Bender, I ain’t reading that.
Inquisitor Seal has always been iffy, but at least it has had some dmg mitigation. You’re already making his build paper thin with sub 1500 armor and 95% armor absorption with very little life leech and nothing to truly sustain the toon in battle like scales of Ulkama or some sort of vitality to aether conversion for bat or wendigo. Your “Fix” is sustained on nothing but hopes and dreams of never being hit by enemies.
Non standarized build doesn’t mean that looney tunes logic should be applied as a fix. You’re scrapping away armor, spirit dmg, for fashion and looks. But hey, it’s up to OP to believe your Bs or not, it’s their time anyway.
This sounds like you’re projecting yourself.
Have actually played the game since FoA? Rolling greens into desired almost perfect rolls is easier than ever if you have the coin and high grade materials. Heck, even before that farming pants for desireable affixes wasn’t that difficult, a bit tedius but you would get eventually something that would be worthy even if it wasn’t the exact 2 affixes that you wanted.
Never said it was wrong. If op want’s to spend/waste their time in an unsustainable and defective “fixed” build that’s going to get them killed over and over due to poor building choices, it’s their choice.
it’s not paper, for several reason
one being 10pt seal was already not doing much, but it’s doing even less in FoA - there is no big loss in general, there is no big loss when FoA made even hardcapped seal something to not always be excited about (this wasn’t hardcapped)
95% absorb isn’t paper; because low AR (if you actually understood AR you’d know why 95 isn’t an issue here). Yes there was a drop in AR, ofc, we had to fix HP; fixing 6k hp is way more important than 600 armour, even at 100% absorb on 2200AR
^additionally i ofc also maxed out Maiven “to compensate”(yes i know it’s “meta” to do ofc, but it wasn’t here in the first place, contributing to squish)
i have no clue what you’re even talking about? - where do you see OP asking to fix leech? - it has a spam skill with 12% lifesteal, heck it has 60% wd so OP can easily squeeze in some extra if so desired; that was neither the aim nor the ask
GJ goalpost moving
“see above”/6k hp vs 600 armour - you have your priorities severely mixed up fren
when both setups have the same 1007 spirit; how am i scraping away spirit dmg? - are you just trying to shake your fist at clouds now with how much you’re reaching?
literally how the whole of vitality thing came about, i was there, i’ve been here for the past many years and seen the progress
have you played FoA? - because it’s not only not so for everyone, it’s so much not so a whole conspiracy theory was created that the reroll was stealth nerfed to be harder
And besides that; of vitality is not a rare suffix so it’s not easy to roll into via altar, which means you have to farm that specific affix first, which is the main issue with vitality stacking even if you can reroll prefix now (which is still not a guarantee ofc, eg altar “nerf” outrage)
then you fix it while staying within concept, ez, you’re so good at this maistro
while also somehow acting like both OPs base concept is not tolerable and as if i ever claimed it was minmaxed
oh look, more basic GD stuff you don’t pay attention to and are unaware of…
