I am using grim internals, just for the nameplates, and recently tried the auto pickup for components it offers and it feels good, but maybe its just a bit cheaty as its not default game feature, so yea, what are your thoughts on it, and if you guys are using it?
I am not using it, but there is nothing cheaty about it. Wish the game had that…
how can u cheat in a single player game?
I don’t know, it kinda feels pointless to me. If we get auto pick-up for components, people will ask for auto pick-up for legendaries, after that for epics, MI, skill macros, bots so the game plays itself. People will want the game to get easier and easier and in the end the game will be super nice to play only for 10 hours, then it’ll be boring as fuck.
I did play few games that the devs made everything the players wanted and all the games died because they were easy and fun to play only for few hours. One game, a MMO, about 7 years back, maybe a little more, the game was hard, kind of complicated and players wanted to make it easier and less complicated, they added auto pick-ups, auto gear for lower levels, then players were so lazy that they wanted even an in-game bot, which the devs also added. A week later the game had 3 players, when month before it had over 4k.
So just like I said, auto pick-up will be desired by players to be expanded more and more till we pick up everything automatically. Then the players will be too lazy to press buttons, then too lazy to use the keyboard at all, to use the mouse, to look at the screen. It’s a chain of events that will lead to the games death.
That is kind of a textbook definition of slippery slope fallacy
But on the topic of the thread, I am much more interested in the nameplates becoming a game feature. But +1 on the optional auto pickup too.
You should write a book
At least soon you’ll be able to just turn 'em off in the loot filter. That’s…not what you asked about, but at least it’s something. Sure saves me time picking them all up, at least.
Of course, you’ll have to turn them back on again for Kilrian’s Shattered Soul runs, because nobody has a stock of those. Probably. At least I don’t.
…to eat, to breathe, to live.
Do it yourself!
Anyway, idk why do people tell me that sometimes. My teachers always told me to never never think of doing that because my ways of explaining things suck. I bet you mean the same…
I meant that you explained it well, and i agree with what you’ve said.
Single player game what difference does it really make? Oh look another searing ember my stack is already 700 let me go click that part again. Auto pick upon components would be a good thing save time and all. I think you’d prefer a game where every corpse you have to click to loot it.
As for picking up every legendary nah 99 out of 100 I leave lying on the ground unless it’s one I need or I feel like blowing it up for a chance at brain, heart or blood if I’m low.
Fully moddable game so what difference does it really make? Use or make a mod that includes auto pickup.
I installed Grim Internals only for the Auto-pickup/complete feature (healthbars on heroes+ is a nice bonus though). It does not feel like cheating at all, imo it should’ve been in the game to begin with.
The reason is simple. Less clicks + less distraction = more fluid gameplay = more fun. I wanna go on a killing spree and not pay attention to component drops, half of which I don’t really need anymore anyway.
Even more important to me personally, less clicks means less pain. I suffer from a chronic bone illness which sometimes makes playing quite painful so the autopickup feature is most welcome for that reason alone. But even if I didn’t have this condition, I would still use GI because it greatly improves the gameplay experience for me.
Name plate is one of the best QoL ever !
Uh yea the auto components feel good , it’s a well welcome QoL also but this nameplate is just god send… And like someone else said in this thread nope i’m not someone interessed with auto all thing ( leg etc… simply nope) , just comps is enought for me
GrimInternals makes the the game much more enjoyable for me.
I play GD a lot, and the gameplay is much more fluid, since I don´t have to stop all the time and check what drops and pick up stuff.
Personally, I don´t see it as a slippery slope, then again, I have a decent amount of self control.
And my hand stopped hurting, so that´s a plus.
Optional autopickup and nameplates should be in the game, it´s absolutely bonkers, that they aren´t. Medierra doesn´t like those things? Well, great, make the game less enjoyable for everyone.
Well, it´s okay I guess, since GI exists, but still…
@Nghtwind:
If it feels good, and it doesn´t hurt anyone …just give yourself permission to use it.
For everyone? I would not like things like those. How the fuck can you say what I want when you have no clue? I don’t use Grim Internals or whatever is the name nor I plan doing so. I don’t like auto pick-up at all, I wish it’d get removed completely.
Stop talking about everyone, you are not everyone.
No, he doesn’t; ultimately the game is his creation and he has the final say of what is in it or not. But he also wanted the game to be fully moddable so people could make mods to play the game the way they want to if it’s different from the way he envisions it. So yeah, there’s a mod for that.
Nightwind if you want to give it a try then go ahead. GD is mainly a single player game so how you play it is entirely your choice and your choice alone. If you decide you don’t like autoplay or any other mod you may try then you can remove it, simple as that.
As far as the comments go, all who tried GI stayed with it. Yours truly included. Never heard anyone say, ‘Hey, I tried that GI and you know what? Autopickup’s not for me…’ or ‘Yo, I miss that random crucible selection thrill!’
Everyone has a vision but this would be something worth considering for whoever has the final say.
Right, I am not everyone, fair enough. Still, no reason to be rude.
You need a hug or something?
And I did say optional, I wouldn´t wanna force this feature upon people.
None of this is news to me.
It´s not that I don´t wanna pick up anything, I just don´t wanna pick up everything. In b4 “you don´t have to pick up iron bits and potions!”.
Autopick, or SOME form of QoL feature to help with loot pickup, are pretty much standart nowadays in arpgs. Same goes for nameplates.
I think giving players the option to use these features without mods would have been better. That´s all.
But let´s not go into war over that, I am sure we´re both too old for that nonsense.
why cant devs just have their own version of the game if they are against say auto pick up?
They have, it’s called Grim Dawn Unmodded
