Thoughts on the new Crucible

oh that’s a classic. totally different game though, basically turn based. i played BG1 and 2 through quite a few times.

i’ve got a great build for 150-170 now, very tanky with insane stats and maxed stun resist etc. and i got nothing bad to say about crucible i think the extra waves are great, but the campaign is pretty demanding on your stats too.

but you don’t “win” an ARPG by defeating the content imo, you win by utterly crushing it, and the toughest content for games like Grim Dawn for me is the challenge of my toons competing against each other. That’s what keeps me playing after i grind the PvE into dust. unless i find an alpha build nothing else can compete with (like wrecking every inch of the screen w meteors in Torchlight 2)

but by the time you can do that, you don’t need the loot the bosses have anyway. i just got my last helmet recipe yesterday in fact, Eldritch Gaze. now as far as i can tell all i’m missing is 3 conduits :stuck_out_tongue:

My pierce Blademaster full deathmarked (non Mythical) SS in to trash , almost die , run , ss into trash , almost die , run . Hated it so much even though I loved the character up until AoM , I changed it around after some advice , changed it again . Now I’m parked up at lvl 94 and not reached coven yet because I know I won’t be able to get the quest heart .

Now I’m gathering belgothian to completely change it up , normal deathmarked in AoM is absolute shit .

Come on. You know what he means. It is discussed 2 pages back. A lot of builds no matter how you approach have no chance. Even with buffs and great defense. It is no longer about making the build you like crucible viable but choosing the right crucible build and then and only then work on gear-devos.

One thing I’m sure is that you have a tank build just quit the game at wave 153 before it turns into a shitshow.

Sure, non dot builds that need to stand still to inflict damage can just stop at 150. This is bad in my perspective. All lvl 94 sets-items should have a shot at crucible. Players should not be subject to trends.

Well, that’s the problem of single-player focus of the game. You have to be the damager and the tank and the healer all at once. In D3, despite how dogshit game became compared to D2, you could have different characters playing different roles, because it was multiplayer. In GD there is nobody, not even a mercenary going to tank for you while you do your sick damage standing back as a glass cannon. So it’s natural that all characters that want to compete at Gladiator must have similiar well-rounded stats in terms of offense and defense.

Do you really think this is supposed to be comparable to Reaper?

This, or at least, all reasonable styles of play should be capable with the proper set-items. Dual wielders, shield users, casters, gun users. They should all have builds which can get them through it. Perhaps not every oddball mix and match, but at least every general style of play should have a chance.

At least, you can effectively kill Reaper with proper build. Same for Mogdrogen. You can simply adapt you build to damage types they deal, and give a shit about most resists, etc.
Crucible is very different. You dont face just one enemy, you face ALL enemies that are there in game. You must overcap EVERY resist (because otherwise, you will be killed by that damage types you didnt overcapped), almost every CC resistance (or you will be locked by it to death), you must also have high physical resist & armour (or physical- hitter will pwn you), huge DA to prevent being oneshotted by crits with extra crit damage mutator, massive HP, damage absorb, and to all that, you also should have great DPS and OA.
And stats on items/passives/devotions are kinda limited. You cant just drag +40 to all resistances out of nowhere, same as you cant get +5k extra HP or +400 DA…
At 160 wave, i felt like i’ve entered 5-man dungeon in some MMORPG with just a single character - that’s how overtuned it is!

Which conduits are you missing? I’m missing 3, also.

Have you played the EE? It has a new expansion for bg1, I haven’t gotten to bg2EE yet to see if they added anything there also though.

The part in bg2 that I was referencing was some hidden quest from an add-on, maybe David Gaider made it? I can’t remember now, but it’s that one where they pull you into an alternate dimension then immediately cast time stop on you.

slow clap

This is really all that needs to be said.

Excuse me, before I purchase the Crucible DLC: Do I have to defeat all 170 waves in each difficulty to get to the next (e.g. aspirant to unlock challenger and challenger to unlock gladiator)? If so, looks like that the new changes mean that people like me who havent farmed gladiator yet might not get a chance to try…

You need to beat wave 100 to unlock the next difficulty. Once you’ve unlocked Gladiator you can buy transferrable runes from Crucible vendor to immediately unlock Gladiator difficulty on other characters.

Just wondering, I’m levelling a Poison Witchblade right now. Do you guys thinks he could have any chance of doing waves 170?

I just want that my character can do all the content, not being limited by the classes I picked. The build I’m using is the one from “Reasonably powerful builds”:

  1. Poison/acid DEE witchblade by Drizzto

Can’t link it here. The OP of the post updated it.

DEE Witchblade is in a worse state than when Drizzto introduced his build since the Mythical set pretty much sucks. I think it’s doable which a lot of kiting but it will be veeerrrrryyyy slow.

That’s really bad! :frowning:

Edit: Guess I’ll make a Vitality Cabalist, the one THT posted seems cool. Hope it can handle 170.

To handle 170 at Gladiator, you should either have retardedly tanky shield build, or abuse CDR with defensive skills like Mirror or Ereoctres/Mark of torment (have 100% uptime of them).

I see. I wonder how Shield Witchblade compares against Shield Commando. Not having Blast Shield seems hard.

@actuanpanda

Did you tested your shield Purifier on waves 150-170? How did it do?

Even my phys shield commando had trouble. Even with a tankyer devo route. Might try with shield wall+myth hammerfall belt for retard armor.

Best bet is fire BWC commando. Tank dots and casters in general are sadly the favorites
