Just came back to the game after a year or so brake. I absolutely loved my vitality conjurer and wanted to try something similar with Necromancer and using some summons for big meat shields while I spam Devouring Swarm and keep Wendigo Totem up to do its thing.
I have a bunch of gear but nothing to crazy but I have plenty of time to kill till next PoE league.
Would love some feedback from more experienced players.
Alright, updated some things and added gear. Obviously I don’t have all that gear but that’s what farming is for!

My thoughts:
- Your OA/DA are pretty low. Ideally, you want your OA higher to crit consistently and your DA higher so you don’t get crit.
- Similarly, your Pets OA is low and looking through, your pets could probably have/do with some more % Crit Damage.
- You lack a suitable pool of % damage for your pets to build upon as well. The way I see it - your pets aren’t going to be doing much damage.
- You seem to lack a flat source of resist reduction unless I’m missing something?
- If you’re doing a Vitality build, you should definitely grab Spectral Wrath to use alongside Devouring Swarm.
- The points in Reaping Strike are puzzling, do you intend to use your scepter for attacking?
- Using the Blood Orb is also kinda puzzling. It’s not a bad off hand but the main reason to use it is for Blood Rite and the only place I see where the conversion will benefit you is Bone Harvest but you seem to be using it to buff your pets? The conversion does not extend to them if that’s what you’re thinking. Otherwise, I imagine that there must be better off hands you can use for Vitality damage?
Some things I can suggest:
- Pick up Spectral Binding and Spectral Wrath for OA and Resist Reduction.
- Again, unless I’m missing something, I suggest picking up the Manticore constellation for more resist reduction in Acid Spray.
I’m not too familiar with the new gear as of yet so can’t really suggest what to use.
Thanks for the great response man.
Yeah, the off-hand is just the best I have for the build currently. Also the reaping strike was something someone else suggested. I wasn’t sure it would even work in the first place. Good to know I can dump those points
edit most of what I’ve found via google says 1.8k DA is more than fine for ranged and I’ll for sure be 2k+ also OA seems to be fine at 2k+ as well. What stats would you recommend though out of curiosity?
This would’ve been mostly true before the expansion but things have changed with the new equipment, higher levels and enemies
From what I’ve seen now, normal (i.e. non-pet) builds strive for around ~2700+ OA and ~2400 DA. Since you are trying to do a hybrid though it’s likely you’ll go a bit beneath one or both of these or you’ll only meet these via temporary buffs.
You’ve probably seen it already but take a look at reapergazes’s Skelemancer for an idea at what stats a pet build has or focuses on, in particular for your pets - an ok amount of % Damage, % OA and % Crit Damage while not shown but I believe with all procs up is collectively around 195%.
Using his build as an example is what largely helped me put together my first draft for a hybrid Acid/Poison build. Perhaps it’ll give you some ideas on what to do as well
