Too many stats/items - Requesting assistance!

Hello!
I’m sorta new to Grim Dawn, but I’ve played ARPGs, and even played D2 for 12 years until D3 came out. I understand RNG and never expect to get upgrades all willynilly.

But damn this game is frustrating me with the amount of stats. If I only need 3 or 4 but there are like 13, it makes the RNG hell to get upgrades. I’m level 57 and still using lots of level 30 gear because nothing drops with the +elemental damage types I need, or the extra health, etc.

Any recommendations on how to maybe streamline upgrades? Or is there a way to find specific items that would help?

Thank you!

There are only 4 sets you can farm.

Problem: All are only farmable on Ultimate.

While leveling your focus should be on resistances. At level 57 you should cap your elemental and poison.Others should be like 60 or 70.DA,check after fight with boss, they should have 0% to crit you.I don’t recommend to stay with armor for long period.Check out the piece with lowest armor and substitute it.Craft random green with Angrim or use faction items.

Well, I think the sets are far above my level for now anyway, haha. Maybe you misread “stats” for sets?

But I feel like I’m losing so much damage. Maybe I"m just too used to Diablo where you had your base stat, your resources, and 2 or 3 stats to go for after that. With this there’s literally like 8 elements to RNG from, tons of resistances, 3 base stats, tons of +Skills. It’s a tad overwhelming when I just want to have new pants!

No, but with this sets you will exactly the stats you want.

For the rest, yes…tough RNG. Have you start/finished Hidden Path Questline? Then you can farm pants.

Yes, I have. How would I get some new pants via that?

Best thing to do is use grimtools.com build calculator to upload your character into. Click on the arrow with a bar underneath it, then navigate to where your save files are. Click on the player.gdc file and then open to import it into the calculator. Then you can copy the link (next icon down from the arrow/bar) and paste it here for us to look at. Then we may be able to give you other suggestions to help.

All 3 Guardians drop pants. You can farm then.

It´s always RNG but base stats will not change.

Early/mid game most of the damage will come from skill line or devotions(some exceptions) and is worth to replace some offense with defense. For pants best you can get are Solael MI one(hiiden path quest).I know a lot of choices can be overwhelming, but ones you understand mechanics it will be piece of cake for you.

Looking everywhere for that file and I cannot find it anywhere that it suggests. I’ll have to try this later, but thank you for the knowledge. Didn’t know about that website!

They should either be in Steam\steamapps\common\Grim Dawn\save or if using local saves My Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save

If you still can’t find it, just search your computer for your character’s name. Since the folder containing the player.gdc for a particular character will be named after that character, it should tell you where the save is.

It’s best not to worry about stats from white/blue/green items that aren’t rings/amulets/belts/medals.
Just pick what gives you the most armor/damage until you start getting the real drops, which is after level 50, that’s when blue items become a lot more common and purple items enter the loot pool. Blues and purples are the only items you should care about the stats on.
As for the stats themselves, yes there are quite a lot, but they’re pretty self explanatory. For example, trauma damage and bleeding are listed under Physical in the second tab of the character menu, meaning they do not benefit from the damage bonus of Spirit.

Resistances should only be looked for on rings/amulets/belts/medals because you don’t have to replace them constantly.
Major resistances you want are poison&acid, bleeding, vitality, aether, and chaos.
Elemental resistances are common enough to not be a concern, piercing resistance isn’t useful.

You can also get a lot of useful stats you need/want in great quantities from Devotions, you get points for these from cleansing shrines and can view them through your skill menu by clicking Devotion.
Picking these can fill in a lot of the gaps you’re looking for in stats.

Shrines are found throughout the game, you’ll have around 50 by the time you finish the main campaign + both expansions if you pick those up.
If you don’t have the expansions, then know that any devotion points you lack can also be obtained by repeating the same shrines in higher difficulties.

With all that said, if there’s anything you’re want to know more about, feel free to ask.
