The tool checks for the existence of a shared stash (transfer.gst/gdh), talk to the Smuggler in Devil’s Crossing to create it. If it still does not work, you arr using cloud save (which I do not recommend with the tool, be sure to rrad the faq on that)
Version 1.1.3 released
More support for the upcoming expansion, reworked the data import logic
so i just downloaded the 1.1.3 version (the windows executable) and when i opened it and ask me to import the data this message appeared
“could not find the main class: org/gdstash/iu/GDStashframe”
i dont know what the problem is because i went back to v 1.1.2 and it worked fine
odd, because my 1.1.3 executable works, tested that before release. So all I can recommend is uninstall and reinstall, The class is definitely in it… in fact the ‘import data’ message is from it…

I am trying to replay Grim Dawn after getting a new computer and had a backup of my GDStash and Game Saves before the hard drive went to crap. I’m not sure what miracle fix worked in my previous post on page 278 but now I’m back to GDStash not running again. In Programs & Features, I have Java 8 Update 141 (64 bit) and when I double click the .jar file in GDStash nothing happens. I right click and open with Java™ Platform SE Binary and nothing happens. Googling for a solution, I came across creating a notepad file and renaming it a .bat to run the .jar.
I created a .txt called GDStash and on the first line I put
“java -jar GDStash.jar”
and saved it as a .bat file. I replaced it the original .bat with this and it ran, except I’m stuck with an extra command prompt window.
When I right clicked the .jar file and even browsed to the java.exe, nothing happens as well. I believe I now have a working stash again, but I would like to not have this extra command prompt window, any suggestions?
Not sure why a double click does not work, what happens when you open a command prompt and just type ‘java’ ? Is the java.exe found ? If not, that probably is why you need to specify the path in the .bat file.
Instead of having a .bat, you could simply create a shortcut and add the same text to it, that should get rid of the command window.
You could also add the java install dir to your path so double-clicking the .jar opens it and you do not need any workaround (assuming the java.exe is not found by the above test).
EDIT if it is really java -jar without the full path to the java.exe, then double-clicking the jar should work. Try reinstalling Java to see if that fixes it.
Sometimes, I really don’t know why things work the way they do lol. I have WinRAR installed and it is the default program for .jar files. When I right click and select “open with > java”, nothing happens. However! Going to properties and selecting Java to be the default program makes double clicking the .jar work!
Same problem, didnt helped.
it is also the wrong answer, you need to specify the save dir. See my post right after the one you quote, you need to have a transfer.gst/gsh in the dir for it to be recognized. Talk to the smuggler in Devils Crossing to create the shared stash. If you already have one and still get this message, you use cloud save…
update: now I am getting error “A Java Exception has occurred”
Even after restart have that error. tried to load database, I shut it down for endless loading.
When do you get that ? After the tool already is running or right on startup ? Usually that would be right on startup, but then you should not even get to the config screen…
Usually this is a Java install issue, not an issue with the tool itself, but then I ever only heard about this happening right at the start
what do you mean by load database, import the GD data ? You get to that point despite the ‘Java exception has occurred’ problem ? Something does not add up here. The ‘Java exception’ error usually occurs before there even is a screen. Yours would be the first time it appears that late and then you should have more details than that…
How long is endless ? Obviously a crashed program would not be working any more, the ‘Java exception has occurred’ should pretty much mean that you crashed, if you got it that late
Yes, I ment import of data. I am getting it after I closed it due that endless loading. i let it load few minutes without visible progress.
Cmon dude, help me
I am not checking here every few minutes, but several times a day
So when exactly do you get the ‘Java exception occurred’ ? Since you terminated the process it sounds like you did not actually get one at all and were just impatient…
Not sure what visible progress you are expecting, every once in a while the text of the progress screen gets updated, that is it.
How long the data import takes very much depends on the system, esp. the HD. For me it takes maybe 1.5 minutes on the SSD (have no other HDs), if you take 5 minutes, that means nothing, simply wait. If you are not done in half an hour, there probably is something wrong however.
Open the command prompt and run the tool from there. Keep it running unless you get an exception shown on the prompt. If there is one, I’d be interested in what it is.
I am getting that error every time trying to start program. Even after restart and reinstall of Java.
Yea, I should wait little more :/.
How?
Oh, so you get it right after starting the program ? Earlier you said you terminated the import because it was running so long, which would be a lot later.
Did you run it from the command line and get some more details ?
Without details I cannot really help you here. The issue is definitely with the Java install or something else locally, not the tool.
Some people had issues with their antivirus blocking it, can you check that ? Otherwise I am out of ideas / need details.
Tip for all the problems with Java:
There is also a “Windows 32 bit executable” version of the tool, see post # 1!!!
@mamba
Please make a FAQ in the post #1 for the “always same beginner questions” …
Yea, I terminated the import and now I am getting that error everytime I start it.
I mean, How I am suppose start it iwith command line?
FOE: I already tried that version, and got different error but still within Java.
