[Tool] Grim Dawn Devotion Picker

I started playing GD a few weeks ago and was having trouble figuring out where to spend my points on devotions. I’m working on a new tool that fits how my brain works and makes it easy for me to see how picking different stars/constellations impact my build.

Do we know if the new DLC will change the constellations at all, or change the number of devotion points or the rules about how devotion points can be spent?

My tool is called Grim Dawn Devotions and it does a few things differently than other tools I’ve seen for GD. Some features:

  • activate whole constellations rather than having to click individual stars
  • pick constellations/stars in any order, it automatically calculates what you can do legally with the remaining points and dims stars/constellations that can no longer be reached
  • for the constellations you’ve activated it shows you the minimum number of points needed to make that select (ex: selecting Leviathan costs 7 points, but the bar at the top shows that you need a minimum of 26 points to activate it)
  • mousing over a constellation shows you the union of all benefits for that constellation in one popup
  • all of the benefits for constellations/stars that you’ve got selected are added up and shown in the left side bar
  • every benefit is a tag that can be clicked to highlight where stars are with that benefit
  • you can set a “baseline” with one configuration and then choose different stars and it will show you how the build compares
  • when you’ve allocated all points, it will show you a viable build order (not necessarily the best, just proves that it is possible)
  • all urls can be bookmarked and shared and it should recreate what you’re seeing

I’ve tried it a little on mobile, but it’s really designed for larger screens.

Development is still in progress and it is very beta. If anyone tries it and hits issues, I’m interested to hear about them, but please include the url that shows what you’re looking at.

Devotion changes are only going to happen in patches. FoA is not adding new constellations.

Tool seems pretty great so far, good job!

Im eager to try this tool out, but now im wondering how many Devotion Points will be added in the new expansion. I’d really like to take advantage of s lot more constellations, and 55 TOTAL points is not near enough.

The Fangs of Asterkarn expansion will not be adding any more Devotion points, 55 is it.

This is really cool.

HOLY COW!!! Dude… that is friggen awesome. How long did it take for you to make that? I use Grim Tools Calculator for so many theory crafting builds, but this one for the constellations is a much have for sure.

Thanks for making and sharing with the rest of the gamers here. Another reason why I love this game. People do some really cool stuff with tools and mods that are extremely useful and very fun.

Edit.

I may be wrong. I think I read somewhere that you could increase those by using the GD Stash. I think to 70? Then again, it was early in the morning, so I might be remembering something else. The brain ain’t what it used to be.

So, I just gave it a test spin, and it performed perfectly. I especially like the build order on the right side of the UI. NO MOAR using the ol’ pen and paper to keep track of what the heck I just did. The total of all everything I chose broken down into clearly defined categories on the left side of the screen was very nice. This tool super useful and very easy to use.

@tednaleid I’ve moved this thread to the Utilities & Resources section of the forum because I’m sure a lot of people will want to use it and that’s the best place for it to be on the forum so they can find it.

Thanks! I’m glad people are finding it useful!

I’ve been playing with a couple of friends and they’ve given me feedback about issues they’ve seen, but I’m sure there are still some edge cases.

The thing I think is most likely to happen still is a “false dim” where a constellation that is reachable via a long chain of buying and refunding isn’t one that my app found. But I’ve improved my test suite and all of the situations that I’ve found are now working.

If people do encounter that, it’d be useful to have the full url showing the false dim along with the valid purchase path that you’ve shown would work in the real game (or in grimtools).

i will also take a look this evening

With my original question answered and this thread now in the more permanent [Tools] section, would it be worth changing the title to something like the other discussions on that board? (if that’s something you can do). Something like: “[Tool] Grim Dawn Devotion Picker” ?

Edit: Ignore me, I can change it myself

looks great, but

Im the first, but sure not the last, like a lot of other tools, this needs the translation files.

I know its an early state, just to say …

Good call, I’ll put translation files on the backlog. That shouldn’t be too hard to implement (at least the things that are directly from the game where the game has translations already complete). My app doesn’t have much original text, but those would be the areas most likely to have gaps.

these files are developed over the years by all of the several communities in the different countries. i think since 2023 crate let new things translate from a company.

took long years for the communities to do that, now all these exists. Iam german and sure i play in german version, so its nice to see that too, like its in game. In GrimTools its also implemented and would be fine here too. great work.

And devotions will not be updated with the addon, only with patches if necessary, so they are up to date, after addon too.

Awesome man! Now I can assign devotions depending of what my builds are lacking and I can visualize it immediately!

@Gnomish_Inquisition Tools like these are exactly, what I need! To see at once - what I need to reach (RR devo), what i need to solve (Dmg, AR, Def, Off, resists…) and I can see also if there is any logical (or optimal) route.

This is very useful tool indeed. This one solves calculating problems of devotion needs. Thank you for your effort :100:

added support using the game files for the 13 languages my install had, including German:

Things that were part of my app and are not in game files (headers, etc) were done by AI translation (I don’t speak most of these languages), so hopefully they’re close.

Checked Russian.
First of All I haven’t seen any language switch option. There also CC and Status effects names in tool doesn’t match ingame texts. For example:

And also, some more untranslated or incorect translations exists.
