I’ve always wanted to play Grim Dawn up close, so I built GrimAction: a third-person camera with mouse look. Press F8 in game and the camera drops behind your character. The mouse turns and tilts the view, your attacks go where you’re looking, and WASD movement is the game’s own. Press F8 again and you’re back to the normal camera.
I just cleared Vilroth’s cellar with it and it felt like part of the game.
Features
-
Mouse look. Aim follows the camera, so you fight where you look.
-
Menus just work. Inventory, skills, quests, map, stash, vendors, the Escape menu and NPC dialog free the cursor on their own. Hold Left Alt to free it any time.
-
Camera collision keeps the camera out of walls in tight dungeons.
-
Zoom with the mouse wheel, without shortening how far you can target.
-
Shoulder views. F9 cycles center, right and left.
-
Optional dot cursor. Replaces the hand with a small dot at the exact click point. It pairs nicely with a ReShade dot.
-
Nothing installed. Start it from the main menu; quitting the game removes it. Settings are a plain text file.
Download
Release GrimAction 0.1.0 · Ophemist/GrimAction · GitHub
-
Extract the zip anywhere (not inside the Grim Dawn folder).
-
Start Grim Dawn and wait for the main menu.
-
Run Start GrimAction, load your character, press F8.
Needs Grim Dawn on Steam, 64-bit, build 24825149, and Windows 10/11. No other installs. The full guide (controls, settings, troubleshooting) is in the zip.
Good to know
-
How it works: GrimAction loads a DLL into the running game (DLL injection) and adjusts only the camera. Some antivirus programs flag that pattern as a false positive. Please don’t disable your antivirus; the download includes an ANTIVIRUS.md with safer options.
-
Safety: it checks your game files first. On any other game version it refuses to load and changes nothing, so a Grim Dawn update can’t break your game, it just means waiting for a GrimAction update.
-
Open source (MIT): GitHub - Ophemist/GrimAction: Action camera for Grim Dawn · GitHub. The download lists a hash for every file, and builds are reproducible.
-
Designed for single-player. Use it in multiplayer at your own discretion.
Known limits
-
Controller: the right stick turns the camera but doesn’t tilt it yet.
-
Devotion, blacksmith and rift gate windows may not free the cursor automatically; hold Left Alt.
-
A few outdoor spots hitch briefly as distant scenery loads.
