Voidsoul Sentinel 1.2.1.6 update

DB is added cause it’s finally worth it. Chaos rr to CoF was good. Big oa for big crits. The build is probably top5 now.

Yeap, damn things now one of the very best builds. But it suggests Voidsoul might need some nerfs Doom Bolt wise now, because it’s stupidly strong combined with AoM as a nuke. Easiest way would be to remove the 100% conversion to Chaos and maybe add some weapon damage% to counter that. As the spamulet has been nerfed enough as it is imho.

Could also do a complete rework that matches Voidsoul’s changes to AoM, namely turn DB in a bigger nuke with a bit more CD. But that’s for :zantai: to ponder if that’s even worth it.

Otherwise, about the only suggestion I can make is that it does need a Prismatic Diamond in the head slot, sure it’s fairly tanky, but the deeper you go, the more likely it is to die. Can do SR34-36 with out any potions though, though it goes into Dark Soul’s mode in the boss rooms due to a lack of CB’s

Oh and your’s now completely outshines my Vit AoM take :upside_down_face: The addition of DB leads yours to fly ahead, especially in the big crits front, as I saw 1.4 million hits regularly in my 2 runs. Where as 1 million is the norm for me. Though I foresee an increase in enemy chaos resist potentially in the future now CoF can actually reduce Chaos resistance. Not by much obviously, since Chaos RR is still a pain to get.

Anyhow, I now want to do a nearly fully vitality DM build using Oblivion or Acid Purge as the main attack, sends helps :upside_down_face:

Do you have same super short cd on Vitality version? Because that’s the whole thing. Doom Bolt helps a big but build’s whole thing is that super short cd on AoM.

The build is superfast but it’s not the tankiest. It doesn’t trivialize any content. I really don’t wanna see big DB nerfs on it, the skill is finally worth taking here to make the intended gameplay complete.

Jw, what damage type of Aegis dealing now? Is it pierce considering there are a lot of conversions

Shield flat and a lot of bonus flat is chaos, there is also 200% phys to chaos conversion. You get a bit of negligible pierce there, too, but mostly it’s chaos ofc.

I see. So if that’s the case, then its probably the most conversion that makes it the damage type its intended for then: which in this case it is 200% to chaos.

Asking cause I had a build in mind using Clairvoyant set that gives 100% chaos into Aether and trying out the fire doom bolt by the bloodsworn vigil giving 100% vit into fire and finding aether to fire item conversion.

For AoM? Yeap, though I have less points in the 3rd node due to Namadea’s Eye being best in slot  So I don’t get as much refreshes on hits as the chaos version does. Still, 1 million crits etc does help a lot.

Oh and here’s the GT: Sentinel, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator This is the SR30-31 version, hence the Chains in the chest.

True, it’s great to see DB finally be actually strong for the first time in ages, but given Zantai’s tendency to hand out nerfs to builds that seem too strong, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Voidsoul DB stuff get a balance check by him. But even if that happens, it wont nerf the core AoM stuff, which is what makes it shine in the first place. Nor the damage output of DB, since it’s still mostly chaos damage.

Oh and it doesn’t need to be the tankiest either, it’s DPS output is such that it can usually kill stuff fast enough to not need CB’s, combined with the adcth from DB. Makes it more fun to play in SR34-35 too :stuck_out_tongue:

I just prefer more safety margins due to being error prone and impulsive.

Also brain just cooked up a DM/FoI Chaos Deceiver idea focused on massive crits :upside_down_face: Right when I want to make breakfast…

it could be done, but you’re losing more dmg to chaos conversion than you’re gaining back from the flat aether (1084 vs 400) Occultist, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
you’re then also sacrificing 4 big slots on 0 fire/elemental items that will contribute to the overall “deficit”.

Aegis is different, it’s not just about the conversion overlap, but the overall utility and modifiers it gets, so there is a relative decent net bonus there. Even if it only has a 40% conversion loss, it gains a fat stack of tdm to more than double the rest, while then still scaling additional bonuses like outside dmg sources too (and even without those bonuses the dmg lost to conversion would still be made up), while then still using/benefitting from the 4 big slots in the build.
On clairvoyant fire DB we’re trading 4 slots for -684 dmg, and chance of cooldown reset, that’s it. No guaranteed dps make up like aegis huge cdr change/dps increase, no direct outweigh of conversion dmg.

*that’s not to say you can’t do it, just that it’s not the same situation, and it’s not just about conversion types/amounts in the overall consideration

can then also in this case coincidentally contrast it with something like this that’s available to fire Occultist Occultist, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator where we’re almost getting similar effects, without trading the minus dmg or 4 set slots in

Needs to be updated since they added Chaos RR to Vulnerability, though. In theory ought to be even better now, but I don’t know where to find the skill points.

Steal them from WoR and BoD base skills. Should be enough and you shouldn’t lose much OA/DA.

ye that’s what i did
since got CoF now also swapping to Silverbolts which gives OA anyway

Thank you guys so much for the list - it helped me in learning what strong build options I have starting to play now. Lee, what would you say about biggest changes to the list, meaning what builds could be out of top 20 by now and what builds would replace them?

There are whispers in the Aether that the new BETTER pre-FoA top20 list might or might not be in the works right now.

Curious why light defender purifier is the only one that doesn’t have a 1.2.1.4+ update? Is it best kept the same?

I was the one updating the original version, but nobody was interested in peer-reviewing the result, so it wasnt published.

This was the version I ended up with - Purifier, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

I think the answer for why nobody botherer is that:
a) it had kinda fallen off after the publication of this list.
b) updating required cutting the gear cost, which generally means the end result is gonna be weaker.
c) build kinda pulled a “cinderella” in getting into the top in the first place, nobody was really excited about it, but it scored well so its here.
