I’m beginning the Ragnarok DLC on TQ and I was wondering which class I will combine with the Runemaster! I hesitate between:
Dragon Hunter (Runemaster+Hunting) to focus on Thunder Strike for damage and using the runes and walls to keep ennemies at a distance.
Stonespeaker (Runemaster+Earth) to make a melee dual-wield character focusing on elemental damage thanks to the damage converter of the modifier of the Runed Weapon skill.
Tell me what combination you will try and why
Stonespeaker (Runemaster+Earth) to make a melee dual-wield character focusing on elemental damage thanks to the damage converter of the modifier of the Runed Weapon skill.
Hi. I went Runemaster + Earth. I’m currently level 32. I am also focused on dual-wielding elemental damage. I have maxed out the Runemaster and I’ve been using Rune Mines for AOE. I also picked up Earth Enchantment and will probably max out the Earth mastery for the attribute points. I’ve tried Volcanic Orb for AOE (but only a couple of points), but it just drained my energy and did very little damage compared to Rune Mines. Also, the Rune Mines passive modifier that does frostburn damage is pretty useful.
I just reached Typhon last night in Act 3 and I’ve been getting my ass decimated over and over. My gear is all pretty under-leveled, and I’m rethinking to add more defense orientated skills into my build.
Typhon has been a pain in the ass with my melee characters. Any suggestions would help me. I’ve only played archers in the past, and I’ve always took him down fairly easily at ranged.
And that’s your answer. Equip a bow and potshot him from a distance then run down the ramp to get out of his way. Not the quickest method, but certainly safer than trying to melee him.
Killed him with Templar yesterday in coop. He is insane. Log and Theodin have fucking nothing on this guy.
>Some sort of retaliation move in melee
>Lifeleech breath
>Manaleech breath
>Constant meteor spam
Used Phantom Strike with Shield Charge to balance him out. Coloss is almost out of the question due to mana leech. From the old game they 100% pumped him up.
Uh, i always kill Typhon in around 10 to 20 seconds with any build on any difficulty. The biggest reason why is that there’s a Battle Marker nearby, i just pick it up, he uses his fire breath, then his meteor rain and then just i kill him extremely quickly. I think my record is 4 seconds on Legendary with my Warden.
He’s actually kind of a big joke. Theodin and Log might be easy for the most part, but at least they last more than 10 seconds. The path to reach Typhon is actually much harder than him, which is completely backwards.
I think I will go for Rune+Hunt it seems good!
For Typhon I always struggled with ranged characters because I took a long time to make damage and he just healed back with his life leech, but when I encountered him in Epic with my Templar and some decent gear it went well I still have to reach him in Legendary with my Templar though, I will see then
Doing rune + dream/hunting here. The dream combo is ok, focusing on electrical burn damage. The hunting one isn’t a high level yet but it should seemingly perform like an old Haruspex albeit with more utility.
Rune seems like a generally good mastery but is filled with lots of 1-pointers and its summons are generally pretty bad.
As dekaron said, he causes problems only on Normal. And I was in coop, mind this. He is seriously packing some good firepower for unprepared characters, especially melee ones.
And strangely enough, i disagree about the path. I found mobs piss easy on each difficulty. Depends on your class I guess.
This. His constant meteor spam, mana leech and retaliation are a major pain in the ass on Normal.
As for Rune, I’ll go with Rune + Defence next time. With throwing axes, as main weapons.
Think I’m going to add Rogue to my Runemaster. With the mines and traps, maybe knives or throwing axes should be good fun and spread several different kinds of damage around.
I made rune+hunting as well, it’s good for the moment but I have a lot of difficulty to place correctly the explosive circular rune on the ground, it take so much time to activate On which damage do you focus for this combination: more elemental from rune or more pierce/bleed from Hunt?
Elemental in my opinion. Doing Spear/Shield and just facetanking everything, which makes the delayed-rune explosion easy to land because you can just cast it on yourself.
I’d imagine the tankiness will diminish in higher levels (unless I can get a DA Tank to work, which might be possible) but the dps should explode when I get Flush Out and Volley.
I made a rune + defense character. Shield + sword. Physical centric with the rune auto attack replacer as a nice way to get some energy regen and damage.
Points in sealed fate’s modifier for the massive debuff.
It’s… strong. This shouldn’t surprise those who know how to exploit the defense mastery. I consider it to be the strongest melee mastery by far. Pick a very fast weapon (damage is nearly irrelevant) and the biggest shield you can. You are ready to smash your heavy damage shield at light speed in the monsters’ face. With all the nice defensive bonus of the… defense mastery.
I am having fun trying to stay under 40% life for as long as possible. The rune buff really speeds up the gameplay.
The rune mastery I find most spells to be seriously lacking. Sealed fate and it’s debuffs are awesome, but :
-: the mines deal ok damage if you lure mobs into 2-3 of them… but lack AoE to my taste for the clunky cooldown they have. I find it ok when dealing with one ennemy and useless when fighting a pack.
-: wall of menhir: close to useless. Nature’s bushes are much better as a diversion / control, and no one uses them…
-: Big menhirs of doom: would be ok if they were untargetable. But the mix of being destructible and the long attack time make them of dubious utility: if they aggro mobs, they will shoot once or twice. If they don’t, they do nothing.
-: I heard energy shield is terrible, but I admit I never bothered to try it myself. The description does indeed look terrible.
The rest of the mastery is fine to very fine. But these 3-4 skills feel worse than the other underused original TQ skills… which is saying something !
edit: I mean… in GD is there ONE skill that would be considered unusable or devoid of interest ? Every skill is relevant.
I can forgive old TQ. I can’t forgive new TQ. And btw I have the same gripe with Diablo 2, which is a game that received actual updates (uber tristram) with no improvement of ‘dead but fun’ skills like blade sentry.
Blade Sentry dead? Guess you never played a Blade Fury sin, Blade Sentinel is very strong when you’ve geared to use blade fury all you need to do is throw them out at different lengths so that they don’t over every second.
I’ve beaten the ubers with Blade Sentinel only
Blade Sentinel has a full 1 second of next delay. Shared among all missiles (and I do mean all. Even those of other party members).
So you beat all the ubers by hitting them once every second at 3/8 weapon damage.
Even with 100% CB (half efficiency because missile) and open wounds or other sources of regen prevention, you are talking about some serious commitment.
I mean… you would have done it 4 times faster by auto-attacking with 0% IAS…
So… how much time ? Are you sure you didn’t mix Blade Fury and Blade Sentinel ? I am pretty sure you would get overwhelmed fast by at best dealing half your weapon damage to the entire screen every second.
edit: after checking, it seems BS doesn’t even carry CB. So I would guess the clear time for uber tristram with BS only should be around 4 hours at best ? (assuming BiS gear and invincibility).
Yeah I know bout 1 sec delay that’s why I said bout spreading th3m out over varying distances, I also used Blade Shield so admittedly wasn’t just Blade Sentinel but Blade Sentinel is the only main attack I used. It did takes around 3 hours though it was safe due to life tap charge wand although I did need to use 3 or 4 wands
I can think of plenty of GD skills that are devoid of interest to me. Like everything else it’s a matter of personal choice/preference. What may be useless skills to you and me are skills other people love and use all the time.
