I tried the game from a version “found” on the internet, and as I like it very much, I would like to buy it from Steam, but don’t want to loose my progress. Thus I would like to know if I can transfer my save game to steam after buying the game, and if yes, how I can do it…
If you want to upload your saves to the Steam Cloud, then enable Cloud Saving (GD Options > General). A char’s progress will be saved there, when you Exit to the Main Menu.
There will also be a local copy in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\folder of numbers\219990\remote\save.
When I have to transfer/back up character files I only do that with the local saves, which is located in the Documents/My Games/Grim Dawn/save. I’m not sure whether the “found” version of yours also stores character save files on Steam, but if you can find the local saves, you should be able to copy that, delete the “found” version, buy it legit on steam, make an alt so that the game will create all the relevant sub folders, and then you can just paste your saves into where they used to be. You can copy the entire “saves” folder to keep everything such as learned recipes and stuff in the transfer stash, or open the “main” folder and just copy individual character saves inside.
But I’m not sure if your characters will be changed somewhat if your “found” version is from a previous build than the current one on steam.
