Trash-yard

With the upcoming 1.2 trading rework i think we will need a way to get rid of some of the unwanted items.
Currently (at least in my playthroughs) i usually ended up with an insane amount of tallow and beeswax, just to supply my town with the meat/pelts/honey demand and the way to get rid of those is just to make a metric ton of soap, shoe, candle makers to sink those and sell it, while making a hefty profit as well.

But with 1.2 changes not even sure if it would be still possible to get rid of those unwanted resources that are tied to others, like are the traders still going to buy it just at a very low price or they wont be even interested at all in those overproduced goods?

So i think there should be a building (maybe an upgrade to compost yard via tech?) to sink those resources, so they end up in trash heap and gets deleted or spoil at an accelerated rate (like 10x faster). In case of beeswax, as it doesnt spoil, just give a timer on it while in trash yard.

Same could go for any organic items, but those you can manipulate other ways anyway as they are just standalone produce and not multiple ones like the case with tallow and wax.

Well, you can always just destroy such things if you don’t want to keep them.

I would prefer better options. I would also prefer that capping tallow not also cap meat production. Having to remember each year to dump a ton of excess tallow is not fun.

Garbage dumps are such a human thing they should be included, just like the mung pits.

Garbage dumps are a very modern thing. London started Dust-yards for ash, soot, etc in the late 1700s. New York was the first place to have garbage dumps in 1895

How to destroy those things? I only found workarounds on the internet, like build up a warehouse with only the excess goods allowed, build walls without a gate, and wait for a fire to burn it down.

I had a similiar idea like @Hunapo because of excess tallow production, to fuel the compost yard for more field fertility. At the trading post, I have never been able to sell tallow, and producing more candles for sale only would need workforce and firewood, which both can be scarce sometimes. Workforce is needed to constantly build up more warehouses, you know?

Click on a storage building, select the item and you’ll see this.

image

Click on the box with the X and the either type in the amount you want to destroy or if you want to destroy all of it hit Max and it’ll put the entire lot into the total.

Hit confirm, you’ll get a message asking if you’re sure you want to or not. Click yes if you do, no if you change your mind. Job done.

I’ve used that often, and it all just vanishes into the aether, I think we’re actually talking about a physical place, a midden or a proper dump, than just changing numbers.

Oh sure, but Asocs didn’t know about the option to destroy things in the game.

Frankly, neither did I, so good tip. But the underlying issue still persist and while this is a fine-ish workaround (not even sure how the game trashes items, will it pick the items in order of expiration from lowest to highest or totally randomly?) i do think that this is just unnecessary manual work for long time cities.

Afterall, isnt that the point as well for the trade rework, to make it more automatic?

As I showed above, you select the item manually that you want to destroy. The game doesn’t do it automatically.

I’d like to see the traders buy tallow and willow. After all they sell it, so they must be buying it from somewhere!

Probably they sell the plundered and pillaged goods from some less fortune settlements. That’d explain why they are buying beer so often.

I am really curious about the V1.2 trading post changes, hopefully there will be more and better options to trade stuff.

Ooh, never thought of that  That Plainsrider fella is well dodgy
