Trimming up affixes

There are too many affixes that are relatively weak and only serve to flood the loot pool with relatively undesirable options. Some of these affixes, plainly, are just frustrating to find. Here are some of the troublesome ones I’ve seen:

  1. Sinister. It can roll on weapons that don’t even have any armor piercing. It’s a fine affix otherwise.
  2. Spellweaving. I swear half of the items I see drop with this suffix. It wouldn’t be terrible if there weren’t so many variations of it, but I can’t rember ever using this affix.
  3. Class specific prefixes. Same problem as spellweaving. There are over two dozen different ways to roll an “Arsonist” prefix, for example. I don’t mind the stats themselves, but why do there need to be so many different versions?

As more affixes are added to support new expansion classes, it will be harder and harder to find the affix you’re looking for. I’m hoping there’s a plan to rework some of these.

This is a very good point. I feel like “of spellweaving” eats up most of good suffixes so often just because ridiculously many of those exist.

I agree, because even though this can also be the problem with constantly adding new Legendaries in the game, with Legendaries the problem can be easily solved by tweaking up the drop values up a bit (and even if you are worried of filling the stash with duplicates and undesireables, dynamite is your best friend).

But with affixes it’s a bit more complicated, and just like I said in another thread, I think that the entire affix system need an overhawl in the form of a “enchanter” of sorts. I don’t mind much the “dice-roll” grinding of Legendaries, but the “slot-machine” grinding of affixes is frustrating.

And because there are gazillion of variations, it rarely lands with useful elements. Especially annoying in case of Implements, when it gets one element on the weapon and two others from spellweaving. IMO “of spellweaving” should be implement-only suffix and limited to proper types of implements, aka fire and cold variation can only show on fire or cold implements.

That would be nice, I didn’t even think about how implements themselves roll different variations of base damage.

I’m usually against “smart loot” which adjusts drops based on your class selection, but with some affixes, I’m willing to make an exception. For example, class-based affixes (“soldier’s”, “battlemage’s”, “heretic’s”, etc.) should only be able to drop if you’re playing as that class. I’m against smart loot in general because I love the feeling of finding an item and thinking “I can totally make a build around that even if it’s not good for this character”, but likely no one will make a build solely based on a good class-based affix that they find.

I would estimate that over a quarter of all the total loot I find has either (or both) a class-based prefix or a spellweaving suffix. It would be so nice if these affixes were made to be more relevant.

So true for me, 9/10 of all green what dropped to me are drop’s with this affix.

Suffixes are completely littered with worthless %damage stuff, be it spellweaving or single element that don’t even come bundled with their duration equivalent in order to dilute the pool even further… And since you can count on your fingers the number of common suffixes even worth considering, it really makes getting a decent double affix MI extremely unlikely, let alone a great one

Much less of an issue with prefixes where resistances make a huge chunk of the pool but are actually potentially desirable over rare prefixes. The biggest issue I have with class prefixes is how much they dilute the pool, really wouldn’t break the game to consolidate the skills with two per affix.
