TSS Questions

TSS is one of the few skills I never seriously tried to build around. With all the new FoA goodies, now is probably the best time to give it a go. Currently leveling up a toon with it, but I have so many questions to figure out how to get the most of it.

  1. Target area vs Radius
  • The skills have a 3.6m target area. This should means that the projectiles will fall somewhere in a a circle of 3.6m around where I click… is it 3.6m radius or diameter (I’m assuming radius) ? Meaning that if I hardcap it, with 3.3m impact radius, it’s almost guarantee to hit what is in the middle (given the target will have a non-zero hitbox radius), but not quite ?
  • Rolderathis’ Tome and Ugdenbog Chillstrife can both lower that target area. From my understanding, this is a levelling buff that help with consistency until you can bump up the radius by overcapping the skill, or slapping bonus radius modifiers on it, at the cost of AoE size.
  • Is the target radius specific to each projectile ? (I guess yes). At which point can I assume that all projectile will always hit a human-sized target like Fabius ? Is it even possible to assume this without lowering the target area first ? Or is there always going to be uncertainty, with projectiles landing on the edge of the target area, and not having enough radius to actually damage the middle ?
  • To word the question differently, if I don’t lower the target area, how many TSS ascended affix do I need to roll to bump the radius, and ensure consistency ?
  1. Projectiles
  • The skill have 3 projectile by default (I think ?). Is the tooltip damage indicating the damage for each projectile (i.e. I can actually multiply that by 3 if all 3 hits), or for the total ?
  • The trozan scepter and starfury emerald each have a “1 projectile(s)” modifier… I don’t have them yet to test, is it going to lower the number of projectile to exactly 1, or is it a +1 each ? The wording is a bit weird (lack of “+” sign make me believe it is consolidating the skill into a single big shard, but the “(s)” make me believe the opposite).
Basically, is an extra projectile an extra +25% dmg (assuming all of them hit) ? (and the 5th one yet an other +20%)
  • Even more projectile questions… assuming each projectile is its own damage instance, does it means frostburn will stack, like it would on storm totems, or do the forstburn reset each time the target get hit by a new TSS ?

I’ll leave the radius questions to more knowledgeable players.

For the projectiles:

  • The tooltip indicate the damage for 1 projectile.
…but also includes the DOT damage which doesn’t stack.
So the total damage formula is more : (number of Projectiles * normal damage) + DOT damage.
  • The trozan scepter and starfury emerald will add additional projectiles, not reduce it to 1.
  • Frostburn won’t stack as each projectile come from the same source (skill).

radius is size of the individual projectile, target area is the zone in which they can land.
+target area bad(decreases accuracy), +radius good (increases aoe)

Callip0 is right
and as a general rule (unsure if there actually is a skill that breaks it ) dmg tooltip for multi projectile skills are always listed from 1 projectile worth

Alright, thanks both for the infos  Sucks, I was hoping the DoT would eventually be projectile-specific, but reading the skill again with that info, it become clear it come from Frozen Core, and not from Trozan’s projectile themselves.

doesn’t matter, same source regardless where the frostburn is added on trozan.
Same deal with all other skills that isn’t pets, 1 skill is 1 source, even if it’s multi hit or projectiles or ground aoe channelled etc.
devastation is “1 source”, BWC itself is the 1 source of DoT, doesn’t matter if you have a single or twelve fire pools cast. - same skill regardless just used multiple times one way or another (direct cast/channel/multi projectile, still 1 x skill)
To get multiple DoTs from “1” skill each instance of that skill needs to be counted as its own, and that only happens with pets (true and pseudo pets).
*or item procs technically, since each item granted skill is considered its own too, so if have 5 lightning bolt or fireball procs on items with burn or electrocute you get 5 dots/one from each.

I thought it was just a rule of thumb. Or are storm totem considered pseudo-pets ? I know Ludrigan can (could ?) stack a ton of DoT.

We’re drifting off-topic, but just to make sure, WPS are each their own skill ? If I was to somehow stack 10 different WPS with DoTs on top of a DAR, I could theorically get 11 sources of DoT on an AA build ?

Totems are player scaled pets/pseudo pets yes, you never have to worry about that atleast in the game, since it’s one of the few things it will highlight in tooltip/orange text, even if game doesn’t highlight a bunch of other stuff

as long it’s a different wps yes
