Ubers : Challenges --> Rewards

The following is something I might work in, or someone else with experience could do it. I will look into it, but I never worked with any modding tools in my life… and maybe it’s not even possible (but most likely!).

Back in D2, I always though that the ubers where interesting because they were giving a Hellfire as an item which you really wanted! For Grim Dawn, I would like to bring back this idea of farming for keys, but instead of creating a new item, I would like to give players ways to have what they want/need.

The goal of that mod:

  • Exploring the existing world with the key system
  • Giving the player a challenge by adding more then one boss within one fight, and adding many pacts of 3 heroes together on the way to the big fight within each rift.
  • Rewarding the players from the process (on each rift but especially on the 4th one with that new NPC) without being 100% accurate on the outcome.

So How would it work?

  1. Although I didn’t think about which boss would drop which keys, I was thinking about 3-4 boss per key.

Exemple :Skeleton key of Hate (lol D2:LOD I know)
The key would drop from be 3-4 aetherial boss and it would drop once per session within those 3-4 bosses.

Same goes for the Skeleton key of Destruction (Chtonian) and the Skeleton key of Terror (Undead).

What to do with those keys?
It would work the same way as how it worked with the ubers in D2, but to actually spawn one Rift, we could use an NPC to select which rift out of 3 you wanna spawn.

So to open the 3 different rifts you would need 3 keys of each!

What to find within those rifts?
Inside those rifts you would find packs of monster with a ‘‘lot’’ of heroes (pact of 3 heroes for exemple) and 2 boss/Nemesis together at the end.

The reward of those rift would be the usual of the Nemesis’s chest and the big chest from a boss. Also, another item would drop that we could call the ‘‘orb’’

3 differents rift means 3 orbs : something like The bleu orb, The red orb and The Blue Orb. The name here doesn’t matter to much as it would be used to open the final (4th) rift.

What’s into that 4th rift?
About the same challenge as the other ones, but with another added boss or some heroes part of the fight. The idea is to make it difficult without being impossible! We could even mix faction heroes/monsters here to make it more interesting!

The reward: Along with all the chest/orb from the bosses you would have access to a new NPC! That NPC would make it easier to find that good rare item you really want! It could allow you to select the item AND the affixes (prefixe and suffixe) you would like to have on it. But it would be within 10-50% chance to be what you want. As the usual, the roll of the prefixes and the suffixes would have their own 10-50% chance to be what you selected. I say 10-50% because I don’t have a ‘’%’’ in mind that would be best, but it would be most likely within that range (10-50%)

Anyone experienced with modding that would like to work on it? Obviously I would like to work on it too but I’m pretty sure I would need help to speed up the process. Again, i’m a noob within that modding world :smiley:
It’s something I have in mind and hopefully it becomes something real, a cool project!
