Ultimate Diff, Quest "Cult Activity" unable to finish yet Anasteria is also alive

Sadly doesn’t look like I can post my character’s save on this forum.

But the glitch looks like to have happened after I had a person join my game to drop some items on the same character/save that glitched out later.
Was going against The Outcast on the save yet she is still alive now.
Figure that the person that joined my game was working with her and the save combined together and glitched out.
Reave says “This isn’t a good time. We have an incursion to deal with.” and won’t let me turn in the quest.
While Anasteria says: “What is this,a human and yet… Speak with me another time, perhaps?”
Yet I am also Revered faction rep with her and my quest log also states for “The Aetherial Witch” that I killed her.

Have you defeated the incursion by beating whatshisname in the fort basement?

unsure if it’s new user privilege issue or if it’s file format related,
if it’s the latter just zip up your char folder and post it/right click char name folder, send to zip
if it’s user permission you’ll have to wait for the timer to clear or Zantai to grant it early manually i guess

Did you switch sides with her on another difficulty?

This is the dialogue triggered by a faction reset in SP or if you are in an MP session and the progress is blocked.

Given the dialogue you’re also getting with Captain Reave, the faction reset scenario is what I am seeing.

Yes even after killing Commander Lucius it does nothing. The story for the base game has already been finished.

Yes on Normal and Elite I worked with her, but on Ultimate I sided with Reave to get the achievement.

This is why.

Your issue is not a bug.

But wouldn’t she be dead and not able to be talked to, along with her faction rep be Red and not Revered then? I thought that once you go Reave sides it FULLY shuts down everything with The outcast.

sry to butt in
Shvan has the “killed anasteria quest”, but anasteria is still alive(now) on the same playthrough - “quest progress/trigger reversal”
Under normal circumstances these are/should be mutually exclusive on the same difficulty as far as i’ve ever played

alright i just did a quick try and can confirm what Zantai said does happen ingame,
tho i could swear she usually stays dead on the playthrough she got killed on regardless of faction swap on other difficulty

OH? Well damn that sucks, I’ll just always have a frozen quest on that character then. Ah well.

Surely this can’t be intended?

unless you have Anasteria/fort ikon not solved yet on one of the 3 playthroughs atleast
I tried if just flipping the rep with GDstash was enough to engage Reave, but i guess it’s token/trigger related since Ana remains alive and both unresponsive even with a outcast manually set to hostile

Ye sadly it was the character I did EVERYTHING on Normal and Elite with, then decided to go against The outcast on Ultimate just for the achievement. Wasn’t expecting it to happen like this though.

Not necessarily. If you don’t mind doing all the quests you already finished again, you can delete your current quest data. Then you can deal with Anasteria again in any way you prefer and finish the quest once and for all.

If you wanna do this, locate the folder C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main\_charactername\levels_world001.map\Ultimate.
Make a backup copy of this folder just in case.

Then delete the files conversations.gdd, conversations.gdd.bak, quests.gdd and quests.gdd.bak. This will reset all quests to the very beginning in Devil’s Crossing. Your character’s items, skills etc won’t be affected, that data is stored elsewhere.

Note that I haven’t fully tested this, I don’t know what happens when you repeat the quests that grant extra skillpoints. Maybe you’ll get them again, but probably not since those should be stored inside the character data.

deleting quests will reward extra skill points
but it can also potentially prevent progress because of triggers already being stored in the char, so ex Ulgrim might not appear at dead man’s gulch(or homestead?) because he’s already in fort ikon or even Malmouth
Creed has also had issues with being moved on depending on existing char stage(if AoM was activated?)

*not saying “don’t do this”, just be aware and cautious and back up the entire char folder, incase important quests bork or get locked out

What is the series of events/choices that leads to this? Is it just that you change sides to Outcast-hostile in Ultimate?

(I never go hostile with Anasteria - she is like a sister to me - but curious to know.)

you have to go hostile, then friendly again at some point, in this case then also coincidentally before handing in the quest to Reave
“normal” chain could be, you use a Merit on char, go quick friendly on Normal, later you go to straight to Ult, decide to be hostile; at some point after that you then go to Elite and get the Friendly selecting there.

Last choice carries forth and back, so now you’re friendly on Ult too/have the hostility token reversed(not merely rep as with my GDstash test), so now you cant’ even hand in the quest to Reave since he wont acknowledge you as per the Friendly Quest trigger that’s most recent(in my test from Elite)

OK, that makes sense that if you do something so weird you will get into the twilight world. It seems that @Shvan 's scenario was a simpler one, though:

yea but that can’t happen afaik, only way for this to happen is to have a friendly action happen afterwards (also explains the positive rep)
Only 2 things i can imagine happen that wasn’t a straight up order of events like above, is quest/trigger reversal, allowing the subsequent choice to be made a “4th” time.
Or given its notorious jank in co-op (+my unfamiliarity with it), that even if you’ve exhausted your 3 choices, being in a MultiPlayer game with someone/host that still has a choice remaining can impart that token reversal onto your save ?

But since the rep is friendly too and it’s not just the NPC interaction, in either case the friendly action must have been done after the hostile (otherwise rep can’t go positive)
