Underking rock oneshot

skip to 4:00. I consider this a bugged interaction because no way a single rock can deplete 35k hp in one hit.

You turned around running against that flying rock hitting you exactly on the head.
1500% multiplier enabled, simple physics.
:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

there is a telegraph starting at around 3:58 where he is getting ready to throw the rock.

rock throwers have always been nasty in high content. was mainly shamblers in the past and now theres a whole host of others

ye, I see the telegraph. I see the rock. my point is that it shouldn’t oneshot me.

I suspect the rock smh bugs out on terrain/sth and then explodes into pieces inside player’s model, thus instakill.

'tis what many commonly refer too as a “git good” issue.

what scaling is 190 using/difficulty is it considered ?
might be like it’s similar with Ascendant notion, so “uber dmg expected” from certain specific attacks?

Are the small rocklets that spawn when the rock hits the ground also supposed to spawn when the rock hits the player? I never paid attention to that.
Normally the rocklets would fly in all directions away from the impact site but maybe you ate them all at once, that would explain the massive damage and the rocklets not showing up visually. Looks more like a bug than a case of git gud.

edit: just tested getting directly hit by the Underking’s rock, the rocklets all spawned and flew away in different directions. That clearly didn’t happen in the video, so your suspicion seems right, it looks like something caused them to instantly explode on the player in the same frame they spawned instead of spreading out.

And this is what many commonly refer to as ‘an unhelpful comment’. Comments of this type can cause genuine bugs to be ignored for overly long.

I will partially grant you that you might be right, but the truth might be simpler here -

  • difficulty on shattered realm changes things.
  • 35k health is no guarantee in this game and wasn’t 3 years ago, plus this is buffed.
  • rocks OP, I have seen the Underking wipe people with these rocks a dozen times already.
He’s a boss you should not be standing near and he can somehow throw rocks that are tough to dodge, not like the shambler ones.
  • tight spot.
I don’t think this is a bug, it is not posted as a bug or in the bug category. The Underking is not the only mob that gets mega spiked in Crucible and Shattered Realm.
Stuff like this is why I very often disable my damage numbers, etc - so I can see better.

My last words to the guy were “Rock, rock!”
His last words were something along the lines of “I have mirror of Erectus
” (I know it’s not called that). This was a regular Ascendant encounter, guy is some shooty BM with about 20k HP with the party buffs.
He became ash from spinach.

The topic was posted as a bug in the bug category, but a moderator or admin moved it to the feedback section after my last post and before I tested the rock’s behavior when it hits the player.

The rock spawns several rocklets upon impact, each of these rocklets flies in a different direction. If all these rocklets instantly explode in your face instead of flying away as they normally do, it looks like a bug to me. Whether it’s a bug in the skill itself or a terrain oddity that prevents the rocklets from properly spawning and flying away remains unclear, it’s probably very hard to reproduce.

If a moderator has determined it is not a bug, that is worth considering as precedent.
I have just fought this thing twice and the second time was in restricted underground and the tiny rock pieces did not fly outwards in that case adding to the possibility of the behavior of the boss also still being largely unknown as well as all the others here, including my initial semi-joke suggested possibility. In short - other explanations exist.
I did not go into the Crucible or the SR for this - ain’t got the time right now.
A bug would be the last on my bucket list
call me a simping fanboy if you want, but I have come to trust Crate Entertainment’s quality of work. As such I would not expect a bug in a rock throw - a mechanic already coded, where prolly some extra code had to be added to make the fragments go crunch. Hardly a breeding ground scenario for bugs

Again - if I am wrong - mehs.

Fragment stuff can shotgun, whether its intended or not on this rock i can’t say, but the concept wouldn’t be unique i suppose

I am running a 31k Warder, Altar with 5 bufs. Since the expansion is out, every run I do I fight either of the two Nemesis of the beast.

For that time I had been one-shot on exactly one occasion. I was facetanking some mobs, and some distance away was the Underking. I saw the rock slowly flying towards me, and I was thinking, “FU, rock,” and continued facing the other mobs and bam oneshot from full health.

Considering it happened only one time and I am fighting him constantly with 0 deaths and no kiting, maybe there is some bug on impact that happens 1 in 100; otherwise, I would have died much more frequently.

This happened to me too. Grava Thul killed me. He ran right past me and i died in 0.1 seconds.

Had 2 deaths:

One was from this rock, just not hurled by the Underking. It was by one of the mini bosses from a tempest totem. Yes highly defensive HC character. No altar buffs. Won’t bother posting info. Take it or leave it.

Second was to the Dread. It was completely a screen away. I had no debuffs. Just fell over. No visible impact from anything. Was in BoC. I am 100% certain that if I had video evidence, people would be scratching their head, cause I sure was. What’s odd is that this wasn’t a HC character and the most dmg taken was listed at approx 8300 and the only feasible skill the Dread could have hit me with was it’s nova but that’s doesn’t hit multiple times according to GDtools at that distance. I wasn’t in a puddle, wasn’t sundered, and the Dread was above 50% health.

Weird deaths do occur.

I’ve always understood the Underking projectile attack as firing all its projectiles (up to 8, IIRC) as a single rock that then splits into its projectile count if it hits the ground, each doing their own damage. If you get hit by the big boulder you are effectively taking the damage from all projectiles at once.

EDIT: I just checked on grimtools, and I think I’m right. There is no large rock damage listed for this attack. Only the single projectile damage. That boulder is a killer. Fortunately it is slow. And even if you are facetanking him he telegraphs it. just don’t be in melee range when that happens.

only thing i could even think of the dread can hit with from a screen away @_@ is the homing ball,
nothing else should even go that far i think/from my own fight, so mebe another instance of bugged reach/“lightning tech” ?

it’s canister bomb
GT doesn’t list such skills with included fragmentation as 1 projectile+ x projectiles, just like Canister bomb and PRM doesn’t either, it’s just not the way the tooltips/descriptions work
Whether it’s supposed to shotgun with frags or not is then a different matter/“deciphering”, and GT doesn’t always get every secondary effect/template effect interaction right etc

Seriously, I just exploded with not a single thing around me or debuff on me. I killed all the trash before /after it spawned.

I literally sat there looking at the screen in dumbstruck confusion.

The only real thing that made sense is I took that one charge hit the Dread does, it one tapped me, and some sort of bug occurred registering me near it and not what my screen was showing.

That charging hit has killed me before after beating it the first time, when I sat there really scrutinizing the fight so I could go back to HC.

I think it’s very important, as someone mentioned above, that these reported instances are not from a source of “whining” or “wanting the game easier” but from a place that just wants a fair environment. Hopefully this will lead to less dismissing of occurrences like this.

aye, ie report it
But this/UK was reported, then moved, which might suggest shotgunning fragments is intended even if not outright confirmed, or even if it’s not mechanically shotgunning, that high ST dmg then still is, on Ascendant

Dread charge reaching you after the fact/“dmg appearing a screen away”, seems more like bero doom bolt bug, so should be captured(if so possible) and reported, because “anything” hitting you off screen that isn’t like a projectile travelling, sounds weird/bad/sus

this thread was already moved out from bug report tho, to feedback by Z, so might be it’s just a dmg value issue then, “whine”,/not the same

i would imagine high base armor (5k before terrobullum) + maxed terrobullum can allow you to survive the shotgun rock

also i wouldn’t fight dread in BoC in hc without a real imba char. dungeon mods+tiny enclosed spaces+can’t see shit+altar effects? = dead hc unless 40k health
