In metal gear solid 2 , some players got the honor to have their name in the game on military medal.
Would it be possible before the expansion come that some players would be granted that favor or some items ?

Sure, by spending $4,000 during the Kickstarter.
Pledge $4,000 or more
Create and name your own equipment set! You get to choose the name for a unique item set and choose the completion bonus! (We set the values for balancing reasons and can reject inappropriate names)
- Everything from the Enthusiast’s Edition but with 15 digital copies of the game with access to the alpha and beta.
Sorry i haven’t 4000 dollars .I could sell a kidney but no prob , it would have been nice for the "community " as you like to call it.
One member of the community did. 10 members also got to name something in the game. These were special offers under Kickstarter so not likely to be offered to the wider comumnity. Quite right too I think personally as they were all willing to spend either $4,000 or $1,000 each for the privilege. And the person who bought the top offer at $8,000 passed on collaborating with the devs to create their own side quest.
And so? I understand all that , just add the name of a random person on a random item will be such a big issue?
It’s a video game not the nobel price but ok .
It would betray the exclusivity of the backer tiers. Such an action, to arbitrarily re-implement an effect of the backer tiers without people having generously helped out the game/company would rather stigmatize the whole situation, Crate especially.
It’s not necessarily their name, but something they named in the game. And if you don’t keep some sort of exclusitivity for Kickstarter backers what did they pay all that money for? Naming something isn’t the only exclusive, but even so.
Plus how difficult would it be for devs to manage something like this? They’d either need another Kickstarter with no idea of how many people are likely to contribute or have to take time from making the expansion to oversee it themselves. And what if they’re overscribed? What are they supposed to do then? Pick names out of a hat?
There was a quest in diablo 2 where the blacksmith allows you to add your name on an item .
It could be a solution.
You are very sensitive on all of that , chill man.
I’m not sensitive at all, just pointing out why it’s probably not going to be considered by the devs.
But think on this, over 12,000 people took part in the Kickstarter. Assume they all want to name an item. Then assume the thousands of people since the game’s been in early access who might also want to name an item. You do want the devs to actually get the expansion out don’t you?
You assume and guess many things dude .
I thought i was a cool stuff, but ok.
I can understand wanting to see big community contributors or anyone else have a mark in-game on a piece of equipment but it makes sense otherwise for Crate not to to honour those who pledged the money for it (and a lot at that) years back for the kickstarter, just as they did with the Crucible DLC being free to kickstarter backers years later.
Modding tools always exist for you to make items for yourself or if you want to create packages and release them to others ;).
Self named items like in D2 are just a silly gimmick, no thanks.
Yeah sure diablo 2 was such an overrated game hu.
Never said it was, reading comprehension might not be your thing, but thanks for trying. It’s the thought that counts.
Arrogance is sure yours dude.
Actually, it was, Especially by today’s standards. INB4 people start saying " OMG! he just insulted the holy grail " Calm down, It’s just my opinion. I could go about how I played it for years and even got 7# in ladder but I can some up D2 very easy " Ladder, Baal runs, Botched PvP and the odd Cow Level" that’s about it. Not only has Grim Dawn become the spiritual successor of D2, It surpassed it.
You talk about a game from end of nineties. You see this game on a competitive mode .
For me this game was :music, design(act4 hell was just awesome) and i could add many many other things but im not sure you would be interested .
I like grim dawn but there is no way it surpassed diablo 2 for me.
I don’t see how this is especially relevant to the thread anymore (although, come to think of it, have we ever had a solid D2/GD thread here yet?) but GD blows the aspects you listed out of the water (except for Tristram’s theme…I think that may well be a godtier piece of music that’ll never be surpassed). I’ve found aspects and enemies of GD to be far more poignantly memorable to those of D1/D2.
For instance, my favorite memory of GD - back from my first character in Earlyish-Early Access - was of progressing through Cronley’s the first time. Going around, slaying these typical ‘cowboy/bandit’ enemies, all was fairly natural…and then, as you progress further inside you realize, ohshit, these guys have Aether Crystals in them. They’ve either been corrupted by the Aetherials or Cronley has allied with them (or both, which frankly I’m still not sure of to this day). Not only do you quickly realize that the enemies you’ve fought so far are likely to be child’s play compared to what’s deeper in the dungeon, but you hauntingly learn that mankind’s struggle against the Aetherials is pervasively deeper than some typical ‘good guy bad guy’ sort of deal.
That story is one of several memories of GD that’ll stick with me for a long time. The Karroz fight is another good one. And it’s things like these that make me so eager to play the xpac content. To be a new player again - I can hardly wait!
