I have been having an issue after upgrading my hunter cabins to tier 2. I’ve tried moving the buildings, the gathering sphere, etc. to try to get my hunters to hunt food. When I clock on them, it does seem like they may be harvesting good, but the icon for shortage still persists?
I had the same problem. I think it is caused by the traps because they prefer those and skip hunting. I just left my hunters at level 1 because the cost/benefit ratio of traps is just bad.
This is an issue with the AI prioritizing the traps over normal hunting. For now, if you set the traps slider to zero, wait for the hunter to remove all the traps, and leave them to their own devices*, they will generally start hunting game as they do at level one.
What happens, from my observations, is that the hunter will always check traps if there are any that have caught game. This takes higher priority over hunting deer. The hunter will also drop off that 12 meat from skinning a Small Carcass, which gives the traps more time to catch more game, and thus the cycle repeats and the hunter never goes after more lucrative meat sources like deer, thereby leading to the “there hasn’t been any game caught in a while!” popup on the Hunter Lodge.
* IMPORTANT: DO NOT click on the building again after you set the animal traps to zero or you may have to set the slider to zero once again. This is a bug with building sliders like the Work Camp, and Tier 2 Hunters.
ALSO: I strongly suspect hunters storing animal traps in their assigned building (after you set the building’s trap slider to zero and they go out to collect them) are causing weird storage capacity problems. You may end up with a hunter glitching out over a “full” Hunter Lodge when it doesn’t look like it at all. See this post of mine for more information of what’s happened to me.
I have this same issue and I haven’t had any problems with sliders other than the hunter cabins trap sliders. They always go back to whatever they initially were before I tried putting them to 0 traps. I’ll try to not click the building if I decide to upgrade any cabins. I just ended up salvaging the tier 2’s and making new tier 1’s.
Also I noticed that some laborers are checking traps sometimes which is proprably not a bug but a feature, which might give hunter more time to hunt. That being said, I followed one laborer doing this and she took a very long route to the trap (walked around a big lake in the forest instead of taking a lot shorter route with a gobbled road) and by the time she was almost there, the hunter had already checked the trap. So may require some fine tuning, but I like the idea.
I don’t know if they prioritize traps. My experience is that a hunter from the upgraded Lodge will place the maximum number of traps (since the slider is bugged) and during the down time that they’re waiting for the traps to catch something they’ll walk into the centre of the work area, stand around (sometimes directly next to deer) and refuse to hunt.
sometimes the hunters arent even making food after they killed the deer. they just leave the deer dead on the ground
Yeah that’s a known bug, Crate are working on the mass murderers
Same here, quite annoying, also i cant move the trap slider to zero which results in the hunter only checking for the traps i guess
I found that hunter tier 1 is better at collecting meat from deer but hunter tier two produces about 50-70% of the meat and many more times the amount of pelts (like 6x). If you want more meat leave at tier 1 and if you want more pelts, upgrade. Traps are also bugged and you cannot reduce the amount you want to set.
Yep. I have discovered that I have to upgrade several to a LVL 2 and just max the traps and only count on them for the pelts and then leave others at LVL 1 and count on them for the meat. There could be in depth mechanics that are a little buggy I am not aware of, but for now I have had to do this after upgrading most to LVL 2 and realized that was why my meat shortage would never stop and they never “saw” deer.
