Upgrades now available!

Maybe it’s just me, but from what I see it’s a case of Crate, due to their small size, have never been able to have time to run both sales and make the game so Humble Bundle took on the role of selling (they were the only option to buy from for quite a while) and while Crate have wanted to have an option for upgrades, Humble Bundle were unable to supply this ability until they decided to manually run each upgrade request individually.

For example when I first supported Crate with a Patron pack there was no option for anyone to upgrade. It took a few months before Humble offered the manual option. The problem is that now the game is available via Steam as well, Steam does not do any manually upgrades or anything like this, so the upgrades are still limited to people who have purchased from Humble Bundle and the first post does clearly say that it is only down to Humble Bundle doing this manual option that anyone can upgrade at all.

So it’s not really Crate excluding Steam buyers, if Steam was able to offer to the same upgrade options as Humble bundle do then I certain Crate would announce and offer this. If anything Steam not offering this is not helping Crate in sales, so I don’t feel Crate is to blame here, they are doing what they can.

This is our partially true. Steam does not have the separate tiers at all, it’s not just that they do not allow upgrades between them. That is not simply Steam’s inability, because they do offer standard and deluxe versions of the same game.

This might have to do with GD development though, because technically no one is yet playing any of the other tiers or their regular keys (which tell them apart, presumably).

Unfair, I don’t think so. One way to look at it, but I don’t think it’s the case here, is a way to encourage people to buy from the web site as the Devs would earn more money from the sale. I don’t have a problem with that.

Plus, a consumer should do some research prior to buying to find the best deal.

Having said that and IIRC, medierra has mentioned the possibility that these extras could possibly be sold as DLC.

Two totally different concepts going here imo.

Getting The Wisp and first expansion as a consumer versus helping Crate the company.

When this game first had a website and a buy button, I bought the most expensive thing they would sell me. This was even before I was moderating on this site, iirc, and definitely before any type of playtesting or anything. It had nothing to do with Grim Dawn at all really, I bought TQIT on amazon as dvd sets for 9.99 or something, three times cause my kids play too. Then I bought it on steam three times too, cause I am in that group, I pay to make my life easier, if it is a risk move with a shady company, i really do not fear that with valve. But none of that money went to the devs. The devs were on the tq.net forums, there was modding, I played the crap out of that game and still do a playthrough a year. I wanted to support the devs. Honestly, I still do.

What I suggest is that Crate revist PayPal and make an account with a donate button. Use the same email, donate directly to the devs. Have the forums give custom titles to the users that donate, if they desire, and give them a steam dlc code that unlocks the dlc, if they do not already own it.

The problem here becomes, how big a volume of buyers and the cost of implementing the solution. It is a risk, the game is still in development, that type of operation, can wait until after release. I am not saying you are alone, it is just not even a minor sized mega volume of buyers.

If that is what this thread is about or not, I do not know. If it is about the dlc, well, I am not really interested in that. If I buy something online and made a mistake cause I did not know what I wanted to buy, then that is just being on the consumer side of business. Nothing really to discuss there.

Indeed, there are two concepts going on here, but in my post I focused on the consumer side of things because that is what I felt the two posters I responded to were focused on.

The last sentence of your last paragraph summed it up nicely.

One hopes the buyer learns from this situation and will be a better consumer in the future and reduce their “buyer’s remorse”.

Me too, though clearly you’ve supported them much more than I.

I first came across the game via Kickstarter, a friend shared a link on it. I saw the campaign and was captivated by the game. I did some research and medierra seemed on the up and up, so I backed the game at the $85 level which I felt could support the devs, and get me a great game (I hoped at the time). Which as it turns out, I’m glad I backed.

I did convince two of my friends to get the game, mainly because I had played it for over 400 hours and they wanted to know why that was. They liked the game.

So… does Crate have plans to share the upgrade pack to Steam buyers? I need that wisp! :frowning:

But seriously, I wanted to give more to the company since this is easily my game for 2015. I was such a fan of the TQ franchise.

The wisp, along with any of the other bonuses are not yet available. If you really want to give more to the devs, just buy the Loyalist supporter pack from the site. The devs get far less money if you buy from steam and it isn’t like the bonus extras are linked to the steam key anyway.

Plus the Loyalist Edition gets you the 1st expansion when it releases. That’s way better than a wisp pet.

There’s been this plan from eleven months ago.

There are items, which increase the light radius. Get them.

I get both through my Kickstarter pledge. Plus the “massively stylish” George Washington powdered wig in-game accessory. Should look great under the right hat.

It is pretty easy in-game to find helms and other items that give 25% or 50% light radius. Or turn the gamma all the way up like I do.

Same here.

I wonder how they are going to implement things like the wig and the Swashbuckler’s Coat when there aren’t cosmetic items in game?

Will you have to keep the items in your inventory for the graphic to show up? Will these items override the graphic of the items in those slots? Hopefully you don’t have to actually equip them because you’d lose too many affixes.

I’ve been wondering the very same as well. I’d like to think you can wear them as a skin over whatever is in the slot, so you keep the looks of the coat and the stats of the item, but I guess it’s wait and see.

I hope they’re not just starter items.

Don’t diss my Wisp :p:p

How do I know which version I have? Seems like a stupid question to ask but I really don’t know lol. I bought this game such a long time ago…

in the right corner of the menu screen

current build is B23

LOL @ Dikkiedik

MegaBear, if you want to know the edition, please go to https://www.humblebundle.com/home

If you are a KS backer, then you might have to check https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn

i knew what he meant, but it was pretty clear to see which kind of version you have, if you just go the the kickstarter site and look up how much you have spend on buying the game…

And if he bought the game before?

Thanks for the response guys. I briefly look at the websites but I guess I have to look closer. I’m not registered at Humble Bundle but I do have Grim Dawn on Steam. Not saying I’m Sherlock Holms or anything but I think I may have purchased Grim Dawn through Steam…

Anyone know if I can get the “Wisp” if I purchased the game through Steam? If not, what would it take to get the “Wisp”?

That’s unknown at this time. IIRC, medierra mentioned they might be able to have DLC after release, and that it would take them time to figure it out.

Buy the game again, this time from the site here - Loyalist package. Otherwise wait and hope it gets included in a DLC sometime in the future.
