It would be solvable with an account that you need to log in while in game, that just checks your founder status and then enables the in game items. If you wish to not log in or dont create an account, those items are just unavailable. could also come in handy for microstransactions, should there be a need for that later.
I want only to say that I upgraded my tier form current pioneer to patron, and the whole process was incredibly fast! I want to thank again Josh from Humble Bundle!:):(

Micro transactions? No…just no.
No sir, not in my kool-aid!
I currently have a Pioneer Edition ( It looks like the “Patron” one available for purchase on your website, but it says “Pioneer”…) I have been playing on for more than a year now, and I was wondering if I could still upgrade to a Loyalist Edition, or if it was too late because I had already redeemed the key on Steam.
You should be able to upgrade by contacting Drew, as described in the OP.
Alright, thanks for the answer, ZHentai
informative post…

If I bought the game on Steam, can I also upgrade to an higher tier?
I believe this is only possible with the version you bought through this site.
On the other hand you are not really missing out on much, if your primary concern is that rather than helping Crate. The expansion (part of highest tier) will most likely be available on Steam as well, I doubt the other items (brew, wig and wisp pet) will be however.
Maybe they could add the higher editions as DLCs on Steam.
Crate might offer (some of) the extras on Steam after the official release.
That would be an awsome thing for people like me who bought on steam and want to upgrade to support.
Same story here, I bought the game on steam, loving it, would like to upgrade to the highest tier to support development. Let me do this, please?
Honestly, I am not sure I see the issue here. Especially if you picked it up on steam during a sale. If you really want to support the devs, just buy the Loyalist package too from this site.
Or is this more a problem of getting the Loyalist package into your existing steam account that already has the steam store version?
Cause if they did this as dlc on steam, guess who gets another 30%…its not the devs.
Thanks for assuming i bought it on sale, not the case ofcourse but okay. I just wondered if everybody would get the same option. But i guess steam buyers are the exception.
Upgrading is cheaper then buying it again (and isnt that what upgrading is for? if you can afford it in 1go?), assuming everybody has the money to buy loyalist is a bit thick-headed.
You really should re-read his post again, and focus on the conditional if statements he had included.
Dont get me wrong he has a point too. But imho its not fair to say people can upgrade and steam buyers get excluded.
