Just noticed that wooden fences cannot be put anywhere on a fence, they can only be built over a road. I am not sure if this was intentional, but I used fences all around my fields to help farmers come and go, or along banks so that fishers could get down to the water easily, even if a road was not necessary.
That is definitely not the case. What error are you getting when you try to place them?
Alright, I played around with it and it seems to just be a proximity placement to water than it does a “you can’t place it off roads”. It seems that there is a different proximity requirement to the edge of water for gates than there is for fences.
Yes, fences/walls are more forgiving of reaching water since you need to reach water with them to block off access. A gate must be valid for pathing through.
Ah, see that threw me off because the fishers will go down to the water at those areas, so I figured a gate would be allowed so that fishers could reach the shores to work.
