[v0.8.2b] "Game failed to save properly. The failed saved file has been named FrontierSaveFailed.sav"

Hello,

i have been playing Farthest Frontier since summer 2022, and it’s the first time that i get this “Game failed to save” bug. I have been playing for hours on this map, reaching 856 population, without any bugs until now. But since yesterday, i am unable to manually save the game anymore, and even autosave are not working. Hard disk has enough free space (20 GB).

If I try to load the FrontierSaveFailed.sav file, the orange loading bar freeze for ever at about 85%.
Could you please let me know if there is a workaround ?

You will find in the attachment below the FrontierSaveFailed.sav file and the Frontier.log file.

In the following attachment, you will find the .MAP file.

In the Frontier.log, I see the same line repeating itself forever, but not sure if it’s linked to the save issue.
“[WARNING] Property (_InstanceBlend) exceeds previous array size (165 vs 32). Cap to previous size. Restart Unity to recreate the arrays.”

Also, I have the feeling that this saving error just came after something strange happened in my game : One of my soldier went on a killing spree, killing 14 people very fast and i was not able to stop him, I just could move him far away from the city. He was not drunk at all, but he kept killing citizens. I then tried to reload from previous save, and this saving error started (from what i remember, might be wrong).

Anyway, keep up the good work, your game is great (except for this bug that is stopping my game) !

[v0.8.2b] Bugs in the farming system generate “Game failed to save properly” error.

Update about my post above on the “Game failed to save” error :

After a lot of testing, i discovered that this issue was linked to the buggy farming system.
I simply deleted the last expanded farm i had created, and the issue solved itself. I was able to save the game.
That allowed me today to reach the limit of 1000 population.

Unfortunately, no matter what i do, the expanded farms always end up crashing and the “game failed to save” issue is coming back over and over, sometimes after many ingame years.
Each time the error occur, i have to delete the expanded farms to be able to save the game with no error.

I noticed that after expanding a farm, the farmers are working on crops the first year.
And after a while, 2 issues occur :

Issue #1- More farmers than the maximum in the population tab (showing 90 farmers out of 84 max).
=> Removing/reassigning all farmers from the population tab fix the number.

Issue #2- Crops not planting and not harvesting
After first year, crops are no longer planted or harvested for the following years.
And Maintenance are not processed, so Weeds keep increasing until almost 100%.
My 84 farmers just remain idle all the time once they have finished with other not expanded farms.

No matter what i do, nothing will make the buggy expanded farms work again.
The only solution is to delete those expanded farms, and create them all over again. That allows me to save my game for a while. But the same issues occur after a while…

Issues remain after reloading game.

Of course i have no Mod, i checked files integrity, and i play all the time at speed 1x (except when doing my testings on those bugs).

If needed, you can use the same save file that i posted in my initial post above (it’s the same world map and game). When those issues happen, I cannot save anymore and I have the “Game failed to save properly” error message (see screen capture).

Do you have the .sav save you were loading and later trying to save, which resulted in the failed save and crop issues? The “failed save” is the file generated after the issue already occurred.

Hello Zantai,

sure, here it is the save file just before issues happen.

Many thanks for your reply.

Hi zicfriz,

Thank you for such thorough repo steps. We were able to repro your issue and a fix will be in the next playtest build (and subsequent release build).

Hello Westfaliah,

this is great news that you have been able to reproduce the issue, and even better that you are working on a fix. Many thanks for this update.

Best regards,
