After saving a game, and using Quit to exit in FF, I notice that on Steam (Library > Home) the status for FF remains green (processing/running) for more minutes than I have patience. Using Steam’s STOP button for FF won’t resolve it. Sometimes the cursor remains set to the one used by FF too. Nor can I use Task Manager to End Task. My computer locks up so hard that I have to use the PC’s power button to force a shutdown, and then use Windows to recover my PC on restart. It seems to happen on very long play sessions e.g. 8 hours or more. A game I played yesterday crashed after a long play, and when I tried to get a screenshot of the message after a short play (about 10 mins) the problem didn’t happen. This has happened about 5-6 times since Christmas.
Did a test overnight: put the game on Pause and went to bed. Came back to my PC in the morning and it had hung. Had to force shutdown on my PC. DxDiag attached could only be captured after reboot.

Yesterday, I Quit from FF after a long game at 5:12pm New Zealand Daylight Saving Time. The game closed but, according to Steam it was left in the green ‘Running’ state. It stayed in this state for 16 hours or so. RAM had not been released, according to Task Manager. My computer had locked up, forcing a power button reset. I did a cold start (i.e. start from pressing the power button), and when that completed I did a proper Win Shutdown (not a Restart) and then a second cold start. When I came back to Steam, the game was no longer in the green ‘Running’ state. This issue does not happen with any other of my Steam games.
Scenario 1: Short play (.e.g 10 minutes):
- FF: Save
- FF: Quit
- Steam: green Running for a few seconds
- Steam: pale blue Cloud Sync for about a minute
- Return to normal state.
Scenario 2: Long play (e.g. 3+ hours)
- FF: Save
- FF: Quit
- Steam: green Running status (have observed this lasting 16 hours or more)
- PC: locked up e.g. not even CTRL+ALT+DEL will work
- PC: press and hold power button to reset PC
- PC: let the PC rest a few minutes
- PC: power on
- PC: Win11 Shutdown
- PC: power on
- Return to normal state.
