[v1.0.3.0] Blades of Vitality revisited - Badass knife spamming Witch Hunter

I’d say a set of Solael-sect would be ideal, but would require a bit of farming to get a nice affix/suffix. A Demonic of Kings would be my perfect drop, but I think Wendigomane, Dreadknight and Boneweave would all be appropriate for the build.

But I think pants on this build are really just a ‘Go for what you like’ kind of slot, similar to boots. Just use them to cap resistances and other stats IMO.
I’d probably say Mythical Dread Knight’s Legplates for the +3 to Second Rite and the nice Health pool buff, although the granted skill is useless so Wendigomane may be preferable for its granted skill… I suppose if one was going REALLY defensive and using a shield as opposed to an Off hand (not sure why you would) then the Dread Knight with a Mythical Maw of the Damned could potentially work for a tankier version?

thanks for the ideas, always nice to have some choices.

No worries, although I will say, S&B gear alternative for this is SIGNIFICANTLY worse stat wise…

So I would completely avoid this option xD
Demonslayers set with Caster Offhand is still the best option for this build, offensively and defensively. Although I’m sure there are some MI’s out there that will grant better alternatives than what I quickly through together about.

I was playing nightblade/shaman with PB but no set either mythical or otherwise. I was going for a build that really boosted the crit damage and bleeding inherent to PB. The ability to sustain use of PB’s with transmuter is really awful. Even with energy boosting gear and skill cost reduction options it still wasn’t sustainable. I was focusing more on the bleeding aspect but honestly I find devouring swarm just does it better. Also what should be an excellent and necessary skill to this build, blade trap, is all but useless and grasping vines outstrips it in every way. Maybe with access to the set my opinion would change but even with the energy cost reduction PB’s is really hard for sustained use. I don’t even want to think what it would be like in crucible.

What level did you get to?
Also Shaman really doesn’t provide much spirit/energy from the class, not as much as Occultist (900/225 vs 600/150). I have Phantasmal Blades maxed and overcapped at level 75 and don’t really have any severe energy issues, some extensive battles require a Spirit potion, but I would never say I have energy issues sustaining PB.

I think she is currently level 80+. I switched her over to two handed melee build for the time being. It wasn’t because the PBs were bad. Quite the contrary. Built for crit damage she was criting trash with every shot and even bosses were getting crit every other shot of so. I went for shaman because of the massive amount of bleed support. I have other nightblade builds that I can repurpose but getting any part of this set, mythical or not, is astonishingly difficult. You are right about the energy issues on shaman. I’m surprised there isn’t a transmuter on a set that changes the pierce damage to poison for PBs. I’ve not seen a single part of mythical or normal set in 1200+ hours of play including crucible sessions.

this might be a noob question but im new so, where do i see what skills you’ve picked?

open again his grim tools. just press S as if you’d be opening your skill tab in game

yes surprisingly. Guess sometimes it is hard to make a good concept better
Either way I am still nowhere to seeing the full potential, as I still have to level a toon from scratch ~ lvl 21 atm. I have at least all of the non mythical pieces of gear and a few mythicals as well, so leveling should be fun.

At first I was reluctant to try but what sealed the deal for me was that the skill PB istelf is fun to use, even though it is spammy, when it connects with enemies and some of them ragdoll through the skies it has something most satisfying to it:cool:

btw: I failed to see that the pants have lots of da, spirit and requiered resistances as well.

I am currently giving this build a try. Just in normal with pure Nightblade so far and about to delve into Occultist. I am curious though, and would like to hear your opinions on whether you think Occultist can be replaced with Necromancer. I probably won’t have the time to test bogh myself, so any input is appreciated.

Reaper is pretty much a good alternative to the build. Though I honestly feel its slightly inferior to the wh version. I only did test a WH but I would be more happy to be proved wrong and see a full matured necro variant.

I have both and they feel about the same. Reaper has higher OA, DA and health potential and WH has higher damage potential (not much higher though).

I only tested Reaper against Benn’Jhar, Moosilauke, Valdaran and Mad Queen (too lazy to unlock Fabius and Iron Maiden). Benn is not even worth mentioning because he dies so fast. Valdaran around 20 seconds. Moosilauke around a minute but that’s because he has high vitality resist (75%), each phase has the same health as a Nemesis (why?) and 14% chance to dodge projectiles. Mad Queen is around 30 to 40 seconds, mainly because PB is the skill in the game that triggers her red aura the most, plus 14% chance to dodge projectiles.

Don’t have Crucible to test it (and don’t care for Crucible).

Try Kuba

those are good numbers indeed. I might just respec my reaper then do a test personally. Though I guess the real battle lies on which class name sounds cooler:rolleyes:

I only tried it on Elite but that was when i was around 85 or something. Took a little longer than the others because he has around 100% vitality resist, even on Elite.

Need to reach the expansion on Ultimate.

In my opinion, this is similar to the Commando-Witchblade debate for Physical S&B Cadence. One has higher base damage but the other has RR. I guess, yeah, which name you prefer will be the choice you go for.

I’m interested to try a Reaper variant, although I can’t help but feel gear tends to favor the WH variant more. Also Possession>Harbinger any day although Spectral Binding is always nice…

Although, is Reaper still higher OA even if WH has overcapped BoD? BoD when active gives a massive buff to OA (138 compared to 88 for skill’s soft cap).

I suppose if you go for Master of Death over Harbinger then, yes, you may have more OA but then you only really get 3 stats and a tonne of useless pet buffs…

I say WH, because most of the complimentary gear synergises better with Occult, is there much PB Reaper gear in the game?

Harbinger of Souls is terrible for PB Reaper. The only thing of worth it has for this build is cast speed but without it, i have 180% cast speed. I’ll take Master of Death 9% OA, 75 flat DA and 25% Vit resist over 15% cast speed (135% vitality damage is meaningless when you have nearly 2000%).

Also, Master of Death > Possession any day. (Possession is one of the weakest exclusives in the game)

Reaper also has Decay for reduced enemy damage and MoT for some easy tanking.

How is Possession one of the weakest exclusives in the game? I can see the benefits of %OA and flat DA, but skill disruption protection is awesome, % damage absorption is awesome and % damage is still valuable, my WH has over 3500 OA so it’s not like it is necessary and I’d rather have BoD and CoF to be honest…

Edit: Okay I feel like I just ate my own words a little… Just modified my build, and while the restances haven’t been tuned, the reaper stats are pretty nice:

Ignore the skills in Necro, not really sure what to use and was messing around, but pretty impressed by those stats.
Will play around more I reckon and see what I get.

Damage Absorption only starts take an actual effect with over 20%, something Possession can’t reach. Skill Disruption is too extremely situational because there’s like two heroes in the whole game that use it and none of the Nemeses besides Grava have and Grava has on his Blitz that can easily be dodged. The % vitality damage is almost insignificant and the flat chaos is almost meaningless because PB can only reach 47% weapon damage and that’s with a MI.

I did say they are both similar but Reaper definitely feels tankier than WH. More health, actual enemy damage reduction and MoT. I’ll take this over BoD any day and i actually prefer Spectral Wrath over CoF. Spectral Wrath doesn’t require any casting, i just need to get hit and it has less than one second of cooldown. Meanwhile i have to cast CoF, which is wasted DPS and i have to constantly manually reapply it, while Spectral Wrath reapplies on its own.

My Reaper has 3100 OA and 2800 DA while going defensive with Healing Rain (i need this to keep energy sustain), without any green MI with double rare affixes and i’m not using Solael Decimation and Mythical Girdle of Stolen Dreams.

Looks like it can have stupid stats if you sacrifice resists xD

I think this is the best devotion set up I have found for this build as far as offensive/defensive devotions go. I find Veil Warden is a bit of a pain to factor in when trying to also get tree of life, but I might see what I can do.
