Interestingly, as soon as I hit 58 I equipped Grim Fate and Crystallum as I had them in my stash. Replacing the Firestarters of course.
They’re awesome IMO. The procs are way better than firestarters even if the DPS gain isn’t amazing. I have chaos built a bit due to brimstone, so Grim Fate is powerful with the constant explosions it produces. Crystallum has the same proc as Stormheart IIRC so it’s an ideal substitute.
Depends on what “the best” wording means for you.
The power of Blademaster comes from gear, specifically designed for him. Without that gear, BM isnt worth a shit. Saboteur is somewhat less gear-spendant, but still, is heavily dependant on it. The main defference is that he requires (or has great use of) “guaranteed” gear, like Stormheart. For me, Trickster-dualwielder isnt worth that much as BM ar Saboteur. I wouldnt pick Shaman only for Savagery and Wendigo Totem.
Don’t you think Armor Absorption is very important?
Because I don’t see any Scaled Hide (+35 Armor +20% Armor Absorption) component on your short list.

Which Blacksmith do people recommend to use for crafting with this build? was leaning to Etram Fald but wondering if Angrim is better? MaybeI a way off and should be selecting another instead
Stormheart has much higher base damage, plus a bunch of crit damage as well. The lightning bonus also increases with damage on Static strike and the lightning procs you have.
Shadowflame Mantle gives us +4 Brimstone, which is very important in this build as we want to prioritize maxing both Brimstone and Static Strike.
And the recommended amulet is better than the amulet from the Ulzuin set, as it gives +elemental damage/+%AS/+1 all skills
One of the basic premises of this build, is to get Brimstone to max level if possible, 26/16. We use the Shadowflame shoulder because it gives a +4 bonus to Brimstone. The chaos damage boost also helps a bit with Brimstone damage. In terms of adding just the amulet then for the 4 piece set bonus, I use the Empowered Essence of Beronath. It offers nice attack speed, high base elemental plus % to elemental damage bonus and a valuable +1 to all skills.
This is not to say that the Ulzuins set would not work, it certainly will. This setup seems a tad more optimal for overall damage output, some chaos resistance, and extra speed.
Just that.
Ulzuin’s set is great, obviously. But Empowered Essense of Beronath and Shadowflame Mantle are just OP. They are just too strong, and usually are no-brainers for every build, that is based upon Fire Strike. Especially considering Empowered Essense of Beronath is craftable, so you may get better rolls, crafting it again and again.
I am currently using Enchanted Flint and Blessed Steel. The -30 resistance reduction on Sacred Strike is nice, plus the bonuses to elemental damage help out as well.
first post here… I’ve just started out with grim dawn and picked this build for my first char. I’m really enjoying it, though i’ve been sticking with melee all the way up to veteran lvl 40 now, since i didn’t like ranged play that much. I’m sure I could be doing better, but who cares, i’m enjoying it…
I do have a question on the devotions though. I don’t understand how you can pick behemoth, since it requires 4 eldritch to use, but the only thing giving you eldritch i see, is the hawk, which only gives you 3 though… what am i not getting here? Also, i’d love to get a general path as to which ones to get next, if someone can be bothered…
Secondly, I still don’t really get the crafting aspect of the game… Should I already be using components? If so, which ones should I go for?
Thirdly, if you buy the paragon scroll in devil’s crossing, can you still buy it in other places too or is that sort of like a “one-time-alignment”?
you get one eldritch from the cross roads (required to get hawk in the first place) and 3 from hawk giving you the 4 you need for behemoth. If you complete behemoth, it grants 3 more eldritch (7 total). It will now help support itself so you can despec the point in crossroads (down to 6 total, still higher than the 4 you need) and spend it somewhere else.
You select the eldritch node at crossroads to get to 4 so you can fill out behemoth, once you complete the latter you get 3 more green as a completion bonus and can respec out of the crossroads point (devotions can be self-sustaining).
Not sure what devotions you already have but arcane bomb is nice to have relatively early so you can level it up, then I’d personally go for the order related devotions for health + defense, then primordial to get to tree of life.
You can buy writs (and later, mandates) from each allied faction upon reaching honored/revered with them.
