I’ve mentioned this before in a previous thread, but I would love to see something similar to treasure classes from D2 in Grim Dawn. The idea that there are items so rare that it’s truly a LONG term goal to find them is enticing to me. It would also be interesting to see some gear with magic find or item rarity to give those players who are interested in item hunting the ability to spec for it.
Would also like to see larger ranges of values on epic, MI, and legendary items. Such that the difference between a good roll and a bad roll actually makes a difference.
There are rare items that are truly rare. Pretty much MIs with rare affixes.
Magic find is an awful idea, that never should be a stat (same as gold find).
No fan of a wider value range either, it is hard enough to find uniques with a good roll without increasing the possibility of bad rolls (and lets’s face it, that is all you do, at least from a perception pov).
There already are absurdly rare item-affix combinations in game - good luck finding an “Ancient Dreeg-Sect Legguards of Reptilian Resilience”.
The stat deviation on items can already be drastical, up to the point where a supposedly better item can actually be worse than the well-rolled alternative you’ve been using for twenty levels now.
[li]In a game that basically is almost all about finding good items, a “magic find” stat would be so valuable that it would practically become mandatory.[/li]In game you could either hand out this stat for free, just adding it as a bonus to already existing items, skills, components, whatever, so that it would more or less be a constant bonus for all characters.
If it would be a constant bonus, however, you could as well just leave out that stat and adjust the general chance to find magical items for all players within the engine.
So you would likely not hand out this stat for free but instead just use it as an item stat and weigh it against other stats, so that you might e.g. either have “+5% defensive ability”or“+5% magic find” on an item, meaning that you would either have a stat that would make your character stronger or a stat that helped it find better loot.
This then though would force you into choosing between either having a relatively shitty character that doesn’t clear mobs as efficiently as it should but would find more and/or better items, or having a relatively powerful character that clears mobs efficiently but sucks at finding items.
Each of these options would introduce an element of annoyance for the player that would simply not be there if an “increased chance of finding magical items” or “increased quality of found magical items” stat would just not exist.
In my opinion it therefore should not exist.
[li]Likewise a chance to find more gold (or rather “iron” in this game) would come at the cost of other stats, and there already are ways to get more “gold” without such a sacrifice - just collect all the yellows and sell them, just loot every lootable container instead of just rushing through the levels like most people seem to do after a while.[/li]After all, gold/iron neither is hard to come by in this game, nor is it very important.
